watch.” After all, there’s a lot one can accomplish in 30 minutes with a fast-approaching takeoff time and a minor dose of panic. While I’ve nearly perfected my process, it’s certainly not foolproof, and since one of my goals for 2024 is to eliminate unnecessary stress, my last-minute packing tendencies are the first thing up for review. I’m sure there are many areas we all could reflect on to guarantee an anxiety-free getaway, whether that be pre-planning the itinerary or clearing the schedule for poolside lounging. Our May issue features design professionals who are experts on this subject—all crafting luxurious, yet laid-back second homes that encourage their owners to take a deep exhale upon arrival. Perched high above the Hudson, New York City’s hustle and bustle fades away in an ultrafeminine project for an Atlanta-based mother-daughter duo by Robert Brown Interior Design (page 98). Also inside: We take you to three destinations that encourage guests to embrace the slower pace (page 111), and back in Atlanta, Assistant Editor Kate Strickland introduces the city’s latest dining hot spot Capolinea, whose Mercedes-Benz Stadium views are the only indication you’re not dining in Italy (page 28). restful, stress-free retreat? Perhaps we can all take note from the contents in this issue. Enjoy!

Workstead Design of a Country Estate

Releasing in July, The Design of a Country Estate: Purple Cherry Architects & Interiors (Gibbs Smith, $50) shares the captivating ground-up construction story of a luxurious, coastal-country estate. With a main house, guesthouse, and seven outbuildings, the book details how Purple Cherry Architects & Interiors brought a family’s vision to life. 14

Brooklyn-based design studio Workstead spills their secrets on creating home-like public spaces in Workstead: Interiors of Belonging (Rizzoli, $75). Highlighting commercial projects across the country—including the Garden & Gun Club in Atlanta—the authors approach design challenges headon to craft spaces guests want to extend their stay in.

With 21 chapters covering a variety of themes, Decorate Like a Decorator: All You Need to Know to Design Like a Pro (Monacelli, $65) is a one-stop-shop to reach design excellence. Written by Schumacher Creative Director Dara Caponigro, the pages are filled with more than 200 images and over 100 insider tips to transform a standard room into something extraordinary.

With a boutique hotel and multifamily housing slated to break ground next year, Storck anticipates an influx of new visitors. “We currently have a strong visitor base of residents from Peachtree Corners, Dunwoody, and Johns Creek. busiest airport and one that our card members frequently travel through, the Atlanta airport was a natural fit for our largest Centurion Lounge,” says AUDREY HENDLEY, president of American Express Travel. Inspired by Atlanta’s reputation as “the city in the forest,” the lounge’s main seating area features a 50-year-old olive tree and a custom light sculpture reminiscent of a tree canopy. It also boasts multiple outdoor terraces, a first for the Centurion Lounge network. Other perks include modern soul food offerings from local chef Deborah VanTrece, a bespoke whiskey bar known as The Reserve by American Express, and private phone booths and workspaces, a mix which Hendley explains is designed to meet travelers’ business and relaxation requirements. “The Centurion Lounge at the Atlanta airport caters to all different travelers. We are always innovating and expanding our offerings to meet their needs.”

Around town with

Naomi Von Habersham WHEN I MADE MY travel plans for 2024, I had no idea that I would have to spend so much time and money assembling a travel wardrobe suitable for my eclectic assortment of far-flung adventures. In a few weeks, I’m heading to Ibiza for a brief jaunt, and my usual sportycasual clothing is simply not going to cut it. I want to look Euro-glamorous, as though partying at Nikki Beach is how I like to roll, so I have imprudently purchased Pucciesque kaftans, silk palazzo pants, and enough gold sandals to fill an entire suitcase! I just hope I get a chance to wear everything again when I return home to Atlanta. Do you think a fuchsia and turquoise kaftan is too over-the-top for Publix? Later in the summer, I’m heading to Peru for a hiking tour. Yes, really. Yours truly will be lacing up her hiking boots to traverse the majestic landscape. The only problem is, I don’t own a pair of hiking boots—or any other outdoor adventure attire, for that matter. Looks like I’ll need to hit a sporting goods store for some sturdy footwear, Patagonia jackets, and sporty brimmed hats. I’m not sure where I’ll feel more out of place—the clothing department at REI or the trails of Machu Picchu. At the end of the year, I’m venturing to Sweden to stay in the famed Icehotel. How cool is that?! I understand that I’m going to have to dress in layers to stay warm, starting with thermal underwear, something I haven’t worn since that one and only camping trip I went on when I was 10 years old. I’m also going to need a fur hat, the warmest gloves imaginable, and a balaclava, which I’m fairly certain I will never don again, unless I decide to embark on a crime spree. Who knew that world travel required such a comprehensive wardrobe? Next year, I believe I’ll stick to destinations where nothing more specialized than stylish attire is required. I’m thinking the trifecta: London, New York, and Paris. 27

IT’S WIDELY KNOWN eight hours is the doctorrecommended amount of sleep per night, but did you know it’s also the Italian-recommended amount of time to make authentic Bolognese? At Signia by Hilton’s signature restaurant Capolinea, shortcuts are never settled for, and all dishes are made from scratch daily using only locally sourced ingredients. Trained under the best, Capolinea’s executive sous chef Jeuel Ortiz immersed himself in Italian culinary culture to prepare for the opening of the restaurant, and it changed his approach to pasta. “It takes both time and the best ingredients to put something great on the table,” says Ortiz. “That’s what we bring here to Capolinea for our guests.” Designed by Gensler and featuring classical elements, sleek tablecloths, and upholstered banquettes, the floor-to-ceiling windows with front-row views of Mercedes-Benz Stadium are the restaurant’s only indication you haven’t instantaneously transported abroad. This playful juxtaposition is mirrored in Capolinea’s thoughtfully crafted menu. Authentic Italian dishes paired with American contemporary cuisine contain exclusively local produce and ingredients. Shrimp connoisseurs will notice the sweetness of the Georgia shrimp

Recently expanded and redesigned by Champalimaud Design, COLT & ALISON, the classic steakhouse at The Lodge at Sea Island, reopened in elevated style. among the otherwise true Italian flavors. Appropriately named, Capolinea is the Italian word for Terminus—Atlanta’s original nickname. “I never thought that I would do Italian food in Atlanta, but I love it because the melting pot of culture is amazing,” says Ortiz. “That’s what attracted me to here— it’s a challenge.” “Once I draft the menu, I meet with my sous chefs and we try, fail, try, and fail again until we get the dishes right,” says Ortiz. The talented culinary team struck gold with their one-of-a-kind duck ravioli, popular Bolognese, indulgent short rib, and more. Guests would be remiss not to

enjoy the top-tier tableside martini service or one of the many creative cocktails. And the experience is an intimate one, which comes naturally to Ortiz. “Back in Puerto Rico, my mom was always cooking and my dad was a baker,” he says. “We were always in the kitchen.” Food is a labor of love, and there is no shortage at Capolinea—guests feel like part of the family as soon as they step through the door. “Every single person who sits at the restaurant is a VIP,” says Ortiz. “I just want to see happy customers and have people enjoy their meal.” instagram.com/capolineaatlanta

Ryan DeCesaro, owner and longtime designer at Morgan Creek, has been with the company and immersed in the cabinetry and design field for over 20 years. His keen eye for design and fresh ideas have helped strengthen the Morgan Creek family to provide exceptional designs featured in some of the finest homes in Atlanta and beyond.

At R. Raffine Design Studio and MRitalia, we specialize in highend residential and commercial projects. With more then 20 years of experience and an international background—including partnerships with top Italian companys and products—we continue to be inspired by new elements of art and design. Interior designer Rasha Francis and CEO Michel Njem are excited to announce the new showroom MRitalia coming soon.

For more than 35 years, Morgan Creek has approached design with a unique angle utilizing the many years of furniture making skills that their craftsmen have honed and developed. With that talent, Morgan Creek has created many original designs that embrace the heritage of fine woodworking with the needs of the day, thus creating a space that is not only unique but also timeless. Morgan Creek’s philosophy is that by utilizing fine materials, exquisite finishes, and refined craftsmanship, the true beauty of their products will embody the homes in which they are found.

The thought of Italy often conjures up images of kitchens—you may imagine boisterous family meals in a rustic setting accented with earthy colors or the sleek styles associated with modern Italy. Whichever image appeals to you, there is no doubt that Italy is strongly associated with food and kitchens. It is no wonder that many of our customers request an Italian-made kitchen when they decide to renovate. Passion and Italian flavor are a signature at R. Raffine Design Studio and MRitalia.

Classic Combination above In the entry, a collection of antique blue-

FOR THE OWNERS OF A marsh-front home on Sea Island, this is a meeting place. It’s a place to gather with their beloved family, to commune with the natural bounty of the barrier island, and to reconnect with favorite pastimes. It’s a place where sophistication and relaxation meet too—where joy can be sparked by the patina of a treasured Parisian antique or the sight of children running free. This motif of confluence and balance is also evident in the home’s architecture, grounds, and interior style. Architect Thad Truett drew on Sea Island’s Mediterranean Revival vernacular to create a home that sports a formal facade that marries pleasingly with its laid-back rear and pool cabana. Atlanta-based landscape designer Alex Smith drew on these themes to craft grounds that reflect Truett’s

AlexSmith.indd 59

vision. A parterre garden of Grace Hendrick Phillips’ boxwoods, dwarf mondo grass, and crushed limestone reinforces the facade’s classical entry of engaged columns and entablature pediment. On the marsh side, a sweeping loggia and soaring windows overlook the river and wetlands beyond. The landscape here is strong and simple, says Smith, who placed a live oak and native grasses along the seawall to create an infinity-edge pool effect, with the plantings respecting and relating to marsh grasses. “Above all, we aimed to create a timeless home that you wouldn’t want to change in 20, 30 years,” says Truett. In a twist on tradition, Truett and interior designers Adrian Cate and Bethany Vann of Johnson Vann Interiors painted exterior accents a cheerful blue that pays homage to the home’s coastal station. 59

Parisian Dining

The dining table and chairs, found by the homeowner in Paris, were re-covered with seats of blue leather and soft blue checked fabric on the inside back. The Rose Tarlow light fixture adds a touch of Mediterranean romance.

Inside, the hue is a strong but balanced force too. “The very first time we met with the homeowner, she brought a Delft blue-and-white paperweight in and said, ‘I want my house to feel like this,’” says Cate. “She loved its beauty and simplicity, and the house really feels like that.” In the kitchen, a box of antique blue tile discovered by the homeowner in a favorite antique shop was sunk right into the plaster of the backsplash. Instead of double islands, which would have felt heavy, Cate and Vann installed a counter-height grasscloth table swathed in blue lacquer, which has become not only a visual focal point but a hub of activity, where adults can perch with coffee and laptops and kids can fuel up for beach adventures. Blue-and-white chinoiserie wallpaper peeks through the dual archways that frame the range and open to the mud hall. Beyond, a glossy blue butler’s pantry hosts the homeowner’s collection of serveware found in a St. Simons antiques store. In the sunroom, the palette and furnishings play off the outdoors. “We made a point not to put any window treatments in the sunroom to maximize the view,” says Cate. Natural textures— 61

whimsical wicker palms and large-scale rattan pendants—mimic the tawny marsh grasses, and the continuation of blue feels like it was pulled straight from the river and sky. And though the space is grand, it feels cozy. “Whether it’s a quiet dinner party or a full house, this home really lives well,” says Vann. “The terracotta floor brings a warmth to the space and makes it feel like it might have been an old porch at one point.” The formality is dialed up in the living room, but not overly so. Cate and Vann began with a pair of Zuber panels, which serendipitously framed the fireplace perfectly. From there, the palette was informed by the hues in the Oushak rug. A pair of tuxedo sofas upholstered in chenille invite repose and animalprint chairs add energy. “We kept a careful eye to balance out our selections so it didn’t feel stiff,” says Cate. The serene primary bedroom leans traditional, but “the gray

colorway in the floral Schumacher chintz is a little bit edgy,” says Cate. The homeowner’s dressing room, wrapped in a scenic Iksel panel and outfitted with jib doors, feels like a chinoiserie jewel box garden room, says Vann. Upstairs, the homeowners paid special attention to hosting their ever-growing brood of grandchildren, whose number doubled from six to 12 during the construction of their beach retreat. Two bunkrooms and a kid-friendly living room, plus a newer hangout above the garage dubbed “the nest,” are primed to host the young clan for what the homeowners lovingly call “cousin camp.” These days are helmed by the grandparents and filled with the bounty of the Golden Isles and the wonder of each other—swimming, sand dollar hunts, beach walks, biking, and shaving cream fights. It’s a meeting place that will make memories they will treasure for a lifetime. See Resources, Back of Book. 67

“WHEN YOU GO TO Highlands, it feels like you leave your cares down at the bottom of the mountain,” says designer Beth Meyer of Beth Meyer Design. That sense of serenity is what Meyer and lead architect Frances Zook of Frances Zook Architect capture in an Atlanta-area family’s retreat set in the mountains of Highlands, North Carolina. Rooted in the region for generations, the family of outdoor lovers and golfers envisioned a mountain house with modern touches that would honor and connect with the landscape they love. Zook prioritized framing the stunning vistas of Satulah Mountain, visible from the home’s facade, from as many vantages as possible, and she embraced the challenge of crafting outdoor living spaces on the considerably sloped lot. Broad windows, a balcony off the primary bedroom, and an expansive stone patio built up to flow from living spaces on the main floor encourage reveling in the restorative climate with ease.

The bar is backed with an antique mirror, which adds a modern touch to the kitchen. The light fixture is from Rejuvenation and the cabinets are painted Sherwin-Williams Connected Gray.

Inside, Meyer and Zook created a bevy of what Zook calls “curl-up spaces” that are welcoming and organic. Sofas in a relaxed, moss green linen inspire camaraderie around the limestone fireplace in the living room, where Meyer and her client cut an antique French dining table down to coffee table height to fill out the large space. A majestic painting of an elk by artist Jared W. Knox holds court above an antique French seamstress table topped with turned candlesticks, French linen baskets, and oversize ginger jar lamps found by Meyer and her client, who embarked on many shopping trips together to procure treasures for the home. “She enjoys the process, she enjoys the hunt,” says Meyer of her client’s love of design. 86

Rooms are sophisticated without being overtly grand thanks to reclaimed-wood beams and textured surfaces like Tennessee fieldstone, wood paneling, and plaster that impart a rustic coziness and pay homage to the great outdoors. The sunroom is wrapped in stone, but softened by expansive vistas of the mountains and long custom sofas that afford everyone a perch with a view. The gracious aura continues in the dining room, where a round table encircled by skirted armchairs in performance fabric invites guests to linger in front of the raised fireplace with native-stone surround. A wall of folding doors opens to a covered sitting porch with a grill, creating an indoor-outdoor haven that is ideal for entertaining. See Resources, Back of Book.

SITTING AT THE glittering bar of the Baccarat Hotel in New York, an Atlanta businesswoman plotted with Robert Brown of Robert Brown Interior Design on how to transform her newly purchased pied-àterre into a chic landing spot while visiting her daughter in the city. She’d settled on a two-bedroom at the new Waterline Square condominiums designed by renowned architect Richard Meier, which hovers above the Hudson River and is located where Midtown meets the Upper West Side. Brown’s longtime client wanted the condo to flaunt their love of fashion. “They’re serious

about fashion,” says Brown of the momdaughter duo who often jet off to Paris for Fashion Week. “The apartment is not a huge space, so we made every wall, corner, and nook really special. It’s like a jewel box.” While Brown admits that their desire for an ultrafeminine style and pink color scheme stretched his typical aesthetic, he leaned on his early career in men’s fashion to execute the job. He created the apartment’s first moment in the foyer, draping the entryway in a silk pink ombré wallcovering that’s emphasized by a large-scale art piece by artist Todd Murphy. “The entry space offers

The nearby small powder room exudes big drama with a dark floral wallpaper that plays off the vanity’s black marble. “This room receives a gasp when people come in.” Touches of pink, white, and gray are carried throughout the living spaces, and Brown played with rich textures including velvet and tweed fabrics. A curved velvet banquette in the dining area offers a posh place to gather for cocktails, and brass counter stools add glamour in the white marble kitchen. A focal point of the living area is a black and white hair-on-hide rug with whipstitching. “It really grounds the space, and the geometry of it feels like fashion,” he says. PRIVATE PARADISE NAVIVA, a Four Seasons resort in Punta Mita, Mexico, is an over-the-top luxe escape Written by JENNIFER BRADLEY FRANKLIN

“QUIET YOUR MIND and think a good thought, either about yourself or about this place,” my therapist Yvette’s soothing voice whispers at the start of an hour-long massage. Good thoughts about Naviva, a Four Seasons resort, are easy to come by. Where to begin? The 40-acre property is set in Punta Mita, a lush, private peninsula an hour north of Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. On one side, dense jungle covers the mountainous terrain; on the other, the vast Pacific Ocean creates a jaw-dropping seascape. It’s a feast for the eyes no matter where I look. While the property’s natural assets are a wonder all on their own, every element of the resort’s infrastructure has been crafted to allow guests to relax, enjoy, and simply be. The magic starts from arrival, where there’s no fussy check-in process. Instead, a guide—Naviva’s term for a sort of upgraded butler—offers a refreshing welcome drink and takes us to our grand tent, which boasts more than 1,700 square feet of indooroutdoor space, including a king-size bed with sea views, a screenedin living room, sprawling plunge pool, and a massive spa bathroom complete with an outdoor shower. Each of the 15 villas—though they above The three-tiered pool is surrounded by shaded cabanas and overlooks the beach. right Private spa suites are tucked into the jungle.

are topped with canvas covers, calling them “tents” fails to capture the grandeur of the accommodations—is entirely private, cocooned in verdant landscape that walks the line between wild and manicured. Likewise, it seems a disservice to term this an “allinclusive,” though it is that and more. Naviva is designed for guests to feel like they are visiting someone’s home where nothing is off-limits. Staff introduce themselves and call guests by name, creating a laid-back atmosphere. Want to see the secret beach? Rather than explaining how to get there, someone will offer to show the way. Curious about an unfamiliar bottle of mezcal on the bar? The mixologist will create a tasting of that spirit and others. Copal, an open-air clubhouse of sorts, serves as the bar, restaurant, and gathering spot, but there’s a twist: There’s no menu, so the experience is similar to having a personal culinary team. Every time we sit down, we are told about the special dishes the chef has created for that meal, though if nothing appeals (it always does!), they are happy to make whatever we crave. Copal is perched on a bluff overlooking the sea, and the adjacent point is a prime spot to watch the spectacular sunsets and migrating whales frolicking in the waves. It would be easy to simply luxuriate on the 200-yard private beach or at the three-tiered pool, but there are plenty of activities to enjoy. One morning an activities guide takes us snorkeling to see the colorful fish beneath the surface. In the afternoon, he helps bait our hooks as we cast lines shore fishing. The property’s warm hospitality, luxe accommodations, and natural beauty means that guests will continue thinking good thoughts about Naviva—and longing to return. fourseasons.com/naviva 113

VIRGINIA IN THE VINES

Nestled in the Highlands of Southwest Virginia, NICEWONDER FARM & VINEYARDS is a bountiful feast for the senses Written by ANN YUNGMEYER

A DELIGHTFUL GETAWAY awaits at Virginia’s newest winery hotel, just north of the twin city of Bristol, Tennessee-Virginia, which straddles the state line. The long, curvy drive into the 450-acre Nicewonder estate opens from wooded hills to rolling pastures and vineyards, with the main inn and fine-dining restaurant Hickory as the hub. The first vines were planted in 2013 on the sprawling farmland that the Nicewonder family has called home for generations. A few years later came the winery, tasting room, and nine luxury yurts. The 28-room inn opened in 2022, and most recently, an exquisite domed spa and fitness facility. Overlooking the pond and vines, the lovely infinity pool may be the most alluring spot on the property. The farmhouse-chic style of Nicewonder Inn is modern and refreshing with vineyard views that exude serenity. Inn guest rooms and the cedar yurts are spacious and well-appointed. Tucked in the woods, the yurts have only a hint of rusticity and are pet-friendly. You’ll find the “patron saint of Appalachian food,” chef Travis Milton, front and center at Hickory, juggling pots and garnishing plates in his open wood-fired kitchen. The James Beard Award semifinalist proudly curates menus with eclectic dishes and creative flair, highlighting local purveyors and heirloom produce from the farm. Menu selections are paired with Nicewonder’s award-winning wines as well as fine wines from around the world. Viognier, Chardonnay, Merlot, Petit Verdot, and Cabernet Franc varietals are grown on-site, and guests can 114

enjoy a flight or full tasting of Nicewonder wines with a light meal and live music at the rustic Tasting Room barn and patio. While wine is the cornerstone of Nicewonder, many activities beckon—from guided hikes, yoga, and target sports to s’mores by the firepit and innovative spa treatments, such as gemstone and far-infrared therapies. Guests may play golf at the adjacent sister property, The Virginian Golf Club, a Tom Faziodesigned, championship course developed by the Nicewonder family in the early 1990s. Take time to visit the chickens, peruse the gardens of greens and edible flowers, and explore nearby attractions, from Bristol’s Birthplace of Country Music Museum to Abingdon’s Barter Theatre and Virginia Creeper Trail. Nicewonder embodies all the appealing elements of its pastoral setting and offers a taste of Appalachian heritage and hospitality in a welcoming, intimate atmosphere. As Tom Fazio once said of The Virginian, “From the country drive through the stone entrance, you know something special is going on out here.” Aptly, his statement rings true for the vineyard retreat as well. nicewonderfarm.com 115

SUNNY DAZE

Celebrating its 75th year, CARIBE HILTON in Puerto Rico is the perfect blend of vibrant culture, rich history, and new beginnings Written by LAUREN IVERSON

SOFT OCEAN WAVES rush over my toes, and the sun is a blanket of warmth. I can hear music playing softly, and if I close my eyes, I know I’ll be drifting off for potentially the most delightful afternoon nap achievable. If this is a dream, please don’t pinch me. Relaxation like this is top priority when staying at the Caribe Hilton in sunny Puerto Rico. Originally opened in 1949, the hotel was the first Hilton outside of the continental United States and served as a hot spot for Old Hollywood elite, with guests like Elizabeth Taylor and Sophia Loren frequenting the resort. Today, in Caribe’s 75th anniversary year, the beachfront accommodation continues to be a historically rich home base when visiting beautiful Puerto Rico.

Located just 15 minutes from Luis Muñoz Marin International Airport, the hotel is a treasure trove of happenings. Fuel up at one of 10 culinary concepts— from authentic Puerto Rican eats, to Italian-American fusions—before practicing your swing at the Monica Puig tennis courts, then head to Zen Spa Océano for a full-body pamper. Guests are hard-pressed to find a reason to leave thanks to the resort’s 17-acre oceanfront setting that includes a three-tier swimming pool, beachside hammock garden, tropical gardens, secluded beach, and more. When ready for sightseeing, visitors will feel a buzz while wandering the vibrant Old San Juan. Colorful homes line cobbled streets and local musicians fill shady plazas with charming tunes. There’s something

to be discovered around every corner—whether it’s the abundance of local artwork and historical statues placed throughout the city, the canopy of umbrellas on Calle de la Fortaleza, or La Casa Estrecha (The Narrow House), a two-story house measuring only 5 feet, 3 inches across. For those seeking more adventure, thrilling activity awaits on the island. Slide down natural water slides in the El Yunque Rainforest, or visit the local manatee conservation center where guests can be a “caretaker” for a day. Back at Caribe, Aqua Adventures hosts an array of underwater activities, including Sea Trek, which puts participants in weighted helmets that allow them to walk freely beneath the waves to explore the local marine life. Food lovers will relish in local delights. Take a break from a guided bike tour for lunch at La Casita de Rones, where oceanfront views and worldclass rums beckon. Another day, immerse yourself in Puerto Rican culture by making a visit to La Ruta de Lechón, or “pork highway.” A scenic hour-long drive from Old San Juan, Highway 184 is dotted with open-air restaurants serving slow-roasted whole pigs and other traditional cuisine, earning past praise from culinary experts including Anthony Bourdain. At the resort, sunset is perhaps the best part of the stay. Head to the beach and sip on a refreshing piña colada (the iconic specialty cocktail was created by Caribe bartender Ramón “Monchito” Marrero in 1954—and they have the government certificate to prove it) before waking up to start another fantastic day in paradise. caribehilton.com

LIFE

END NOTE BEHIND THE SCENES

MY MUST-HAVES Atlanta-based wine shop owner PERRINE PRIEUR GALLARDO shares her spring favorites, travel tips, and local loves Produced by THE EDITORS

bright, crisp white wine with some weight on the palate. Right now, I’m loving the 2022 Herbert Zillinger “Horizont” Grüner Veltliner Weinviertel from Austria. It’s a clear wine with a beautiful mineral expression, some ripe notes of kumquat, creamy citrus curd, and a hint of honeysuckle. The mouthfeel is round with a gorgeous salinity on the finish—a favorite for spring!” Available through Perrine’s Wine Shop; perrineswine.com

bon voyage

“My family lives in Burgundy, France, and we love going back to travel from Marseille to Paris. The French have a different pace, which I forget about at times, so I really appreciate it for a vacation. The markets are a treasure hunt. The flavors of the spices and the freshness of the fruits fill my heart.”

in style “When I’m in need of a refresh

while traveling, I take out my Caudalie Beauty Elixir, which I’ve used for over 20 years and still love. Sézane is another staple—I’ll wear a pair of Sézane jeans, a t-shirt, and a jacket when traveling. I dress it up with a nice foulard from Hermès or Cartier. I tend to get cold on planes, and that always keeps my neck warm while looking great!” us.caudalie.com; sezane.com

gracious guest “I have a few go-to

host gifts. Of course owning three wine shops makes it easy, but I love to add a little something extra like wrapping the wine in something that will last longer than the bottle and will be useful to the host, like a Le Jacquard Français kitchen towel.” le-jacquard-francais.com

with flavor “Miller Union is a favorite

spot of mine. I spent many dinners there after long days at the Westside shop. When I sit at the bar to enjoy a glass of wine and delicious bites, I feel like I have just discovered what Southern cuisine really is. Steven Satterfield is a treasure to our city.” millerunion.com

in good taste “When it comes to wine

accessories, I’m classic. I love a decanter for any red that needs some aeration. For a wine opener, I need something easy that I can take anywhere, and if I lose it, it’s not a big deal. My store has a great branded version! perrineswine.com

high class “The ultimate food and drink

pairing is caviar and champagne. They go so well together, naturally! The crisp notes of a Blanc de Blancs complimenting the delicate, salty caviar is a match made in heaven.”
