On December 18th, 1983, at the prestigious Hotel Finisterra, he tied the knot with Patricia Hansen in a private ceremony attended by a handful of his best friends.

He was involved in the management of the international media for Hollywood celebrities like Hugh Jackman, Sharon Stone, and Christina Applegate, as well as fashion world and concert moguls, DJ's, and everything that was once the alliance of the Hard Rock Hotel Chicago, Miami and New York. Como todos sabemos, Cabo San Lucas se dio a conocer en el mapa internacional turístico como la capital mundial de la pesca del marlín, a finales de los cincuentas y principios de los sesentas. Por supuesto que al mismo tiempo, en los periódicos de pescadores y luego por los comentarios de boca en boca de los ricos y famosos, se conoció de las impresionantes bellezas naturales de este paraíso en medio de un espléndido clima de desierto y mar, con sus playas, formaciones rocosas, esteros, dunas y otros extraordinarios paisajes que solo aquí, al final de la tierra, se pueden contemplar.

Luego vino el nombre de Los Cabos, con FONATUR (Fondo Nacional de Fomento al Turismo). Se inicia la infraestructura turística en San José del Cabo con el hotel El Presidente y la marina en Cabo San Lucas; se termina el aeropuerto y la carretera de cuatro carriles.

As we all know, Cabo San Lucas earned a place on the international tourism map as the world capital of marlin fishing in the late fifties and early sixties. Thanks to fishing newspapers and then word-of-mouth by the rich and famous, the world heard of the stunning natural beauty of this paradise. In the middle of a splendid climate of desert and sea, there are beaches, rock formations, estuaries, dunes and other extraordinary landscapes that can only be found here, at the end of the earth.

Comienzan a llegar los grandes desarrolladores de campos de golf, con ellos la proyección de un nuevo destino turístico emergente y exclusivas oportunidades para inversionistas y amantes del buen gusto, que construyeron grandes mansiones, zonas residenciales y hoteles de súper lujo. La terminal de aviación general se convirtió en una de las más activas y de mayor afluencia de aeronaves privadas en toda América, gracias a los atractivos turísticos.

Then came the names of Los Cabos and FONATUR (National Fund for Tourism Development). Tourism infrastructure was built in San Jose del Cabo with The President Hotel and the marina in Cabo San Lucas. The airport was completed and the four-lane highway and the big developers of golf courses began to arrive. With them came the prospect of a new emerging tourist destination that offered spectacular and unique opportunities for investors and lovers of the good life who built large mansions, residential areas and super luxury hotels. Pabellón Cultural de la República Los Cabos para el Mundo Hace menos de tres años, en marzo de 2011, se inaugura el Pabellón Cultural de la República Los Cabos junto a la marina de Cabo San Lucas con un total de 32,277m2 de superficie construida, incluyendo un estacionamiento al aire libre, un teatro principal con capacidad para 678 personas, un vestíbulo para exposiciones de arte como pintura, fotografía y escultura, un área de cine para 112 personas, teatro para representaciones experimentales, y un foro abierto para 1,200 personas. Entre los espectáculos que se han presentado en este recinto destacan presentaciones de grandes artistas, festivales de cine y danza, como la Gala de Danza México con grandes bailarines del Bolshoi, American Ballet, San Francisco Ballet y otras de gran prestigio internacional; la Orquesta Sinfónica Carlos Chávez, Guadalupe Pineda, lo mejor del Tango y Mariachi, diversas obras de teatro con los elencos más importantes de México, musicales internacionalmente conocidos como Cats y el Rey León, así como recitales, conciertos, bailables amateurs y profesionales de amplio reconocimiento, y también excelentes producciones locales.

San Carlos Canyon Los Cabos also offers unique natural settings for special events. We are talking about San Carlos Canyon, which is located about three miles inland. The turn-off is at km 12 of the Tourist Corridor between San Jose del Cabo and Cabo San Lucas. The canyon is in the middle of a desert landscape with space to accommodate more than 5000 people. Up to three catering companies or banqueting services can work simultaneously. It is typically in use between November and June. The area is ideal for projections on the granite walls and the scenery, stages and pavilions are perfect for presenting music spectacles. Lighting and water can be installed as well as portable toilets, tables and kitchens. All this is in addition to a large space for parking buses and all kinds of other vehicles. Between the private spectacles, great international singers have appeared in shows such as the 10 pianos, the Mexican Crotalista Sonia Amelio and many more. Centro Internacional de Convenciones de Los Cabos Además de los escenarios antes descritos, Los Cabos ahora también cuenta con el espléndido Centro Internacional de Convenciones (CIC) localizado a solo 15 minutos del aeropuerto y a 2 kilómetros de la zona hotelera de San José del Cabo. Este impresionante edificio moderno se inaugura en junio del 2012, nada menos que con la gran cumbre de los países más poderosos del mundo, el G20, que se organizaba por primera vez no solo en México, sino en toda América. Tiene el muro verde más grande del mundo compuesto por plantas de la región, que se mantienen frescas permanentemente gracias a un sistema hidropónico de goteo. Su capacidad es de 6,400 personas en tres salas para exposiciones y 7 para convenciones. Se construyó en una superficie de 66,140 m2 y tiene 25,922 m2 construidos. Además tiene 567 espacios para estacionamiento y fue construido por la empresa ICA (Ingenieros Civiles Asociados) en un tiempo record de 6 meses y medio. Su inversión fue originalmente de 1,300 millones de pesos y recientemente se invirtieron 180 millones de pesos adicionales para los acabados de cocinas y otras instalaciones.

En el Centro Internacional de Convenciones ha sido sede de varios eventos, además de la Cumbre del G20, hemos tenido el Primer Baja International Film Festival de Los Cabos, una cumbre para los mayoristas y socios turísticos de Los Cabos, y el primer encuentro de 27 embajadores del mismo número de países con sus agregados comerciales para conocer las oportunidades de inversión en Baja California Sur. Por otro lado, en breve tendrá lugar la licitación para su operación permanente, lo que significa que el segmento de grupos y convenciones de Los Cabos tiene ya un gran escenario a nivel internacional para ofrecer al mundo la celebración de grandes ferias, exposiciones, congresos y convenciones.

International Convention Center of Los Cabos In addition to the scenarios described above, Baja California Sur now boasts the splendid Los Cabos Convention Center located just 15 minutes from the airport and a mile from the hotel zone of San Jose del Cabo. This impressive modern building opened in June 2012 with none other than the great summit of the world's most powerful countries, the G20. It was the first time the event had been held not only in Mexico but in the Americas. Los Cabos Convention Center has the largest green wall in the world composed of plants from around the region. The plants are kept fresh and alive thanks to a drip hydroponic system. The center’s capacity is 6,400 people in three exhibition halls and seven halls for conventions. It was built on an area of 66,140 square meters and has 25,922 square meters of space. It also has 567 parking spaces and was constructed by ICA (Associate Civil Engineers) in a record time of six and a half months. The original investment was 1,300 million pesos. Another 180 million dollar investment was recently added for finishing the kitchens and other facilities.

Los Cabos Convention Center has been the venue for various events. In addition to the G20, there was the first Baja International Film Festival of Los Cabos, a summit for wholesalers and tourism partners in Los Cabos, and the first meeting of 27 ambassadors of the same number of countries with interest in commercial investment opportunities in Baja California Sur. What’s more, bids go out soon for permanent operation of the convention center. Siendo la promoción de la cultura de Baja California Sur el principal objetivo de Tendencia, esta publicación busca aportar contenidos interesantes de las actividades que se generan en torno a las artes visuales y el impacto de éstas en la sociedad,; así es como surge la iniciativa de abrir nuevos espacios para la difusión del arte que se produce en el Estado, con el fin de ser parte de la consolidación de una plataforma para el desarrollo de nuevos proyectos vinculados con la cultura. As the promotion of the culture of Baja California Sur is the primary objective of Tendencia, the publication seeks to provide interesting content generated by the activities surrounding the visual arts and the impact they have on society. A secondary goal is to support initiatives that open new spaces for the dissemination of art produced in the State in order to be part of the consolidation of a platform for the development of new projects related to culture.

Tendencia’s first art exhibition was "New Identity." It took place in March 2011 at the Cultural Pavilion of the Republic Nabor Garcia Aguirre. The event was an exhibition of visual arts by top artists that brought entrepreneurs and society together in a multidisciplinary art forum. It just so happened that I had the honor of accompanying Victor Cauduro, Enrique Bascon, Martha Curiel, Aleph Alighieri, Benito Ortega and Alejandro Uribe. La primera Exhibición de Arte de Tendencia fue “Nueva Identidad”, que se llevó a cabo en marzo del 2011 en el Pabellón Cultural de la República Nabor García Aguirre. El evento fue una exposición de artes visuales donde se convocó a artistas destacados del Estado. Fue así que tuve el honor de participar acompañando a Víctor Cauduro, Enrique Bascón, Martha Curiel, Aleph Alighieri, Benito Ortega y Alejandro Uribe. Se reunió a empresarios y sociedad en este foro de arte multidisciplinario con una excelente asistencia, el público pudo apreciar una gran variedad de obras, esculturas y audiovisuales.

Motivados por los logros alcanzados en la primera exposición, se comenzó a planear la segunda propuesta, surgiendo nuevas ideas que permitieron optimizar la presentación de las obras en un contexto de galería. Luxury Avenue Boutique Mall a través de Rafael Gutiérrez Rubio, facilitó el espacio idóneo para celebrar el segundo aniversario de Tendencia con una exposición y subasta llamado, “El arte que se colecciona al final de la tierra”. En esta edición se presentaron trabajos con gran contenido en composición, color, tema y manejo del oficio, que generaron un espacio para la reflexión y el análisis de la obra.

Motivated by the success of the first exhibition, a second plan was proposed. A new idea emerged that would optimize the design of the works in a gallery context. Rafael Gutierrez Rubio of the Luxury Avenue Boutique Mall provided the ideal place to celebrate the second anniversary of Tendencia with an exhibit and auction titled "The art that is collected at the end of the earth." Different works of art with meaningful content were exhibited for their composition, color, theme and mastery of craft. The result was a space that allowed for the reflection and analysis of the artwork. This exhibition, in which I participated by representing Cabo San Lucas, was attended by teachers of great importance in Baja California Sur. They are committed to the place where they live, the influence of art in education, and the dissemination of culture and art of the State. In attendance were Anibal Angulo from La Paz, Gabo of Todos Santos, Karin Shubert of El Triunfo, Alejandrina Calderoni, Ivan Hernandez and Julian Garcia of San Jose del Cabo.

En esta exposición, en la que participé representando a Cabo San Lucas, se contó con la presencia de maestros de gran importancia en Baja California Sur. Ellos están comprometidos con el lugar donde viven, con la influencia del arte en la educación, y la difusión de la cultura y el arte del Estado; estuvieron presentes Aníbal Angulo de La Paz, Gabo de Todo Santos, Karin Shubert de El Triunfo, Alejandrina Calderoni, Iván Hernández y Julián García de San José del Cabo.

Un gran poster iluminado con la fotografía de cada uno de los artistas fue instalado en la fachada del edificio de Luxury Avenue que invitaba a entrar. Modelos pintados con fragmentos de algunas obras seleccionadas, interactuaban con el público para dar información de los artistas, facilitando el recorrido y creando un especial nexo entre la obra y el espectador. Había una atmósfera de gran interés para circular los pasillos envueltos en un ambiente de imágenes y colores. Las fundaciones invitadas a participar en este evento fueron la Fundación Solmar, Eagles Wings Foundation y Ayuma, A. C., a quienes se les destinó un porcentaje de los fondos recaudados en la venta de la obra como donación. Estas exhibiciones dan la pauta en Baja California Sur para continuar generando propuestas artísticas que nos distingan, fomentando estos espacios para quienes nos visitan y para quienes aquí vivimos, de igual forma se impulsa la promoción de artistas locales para mostrar el arte bajacaliforniano al mundo.

A large illuminated poster with photographs of the artists was featured in the building façade and provided an inviting entrance. Models painted with fragments of the paintings on display interacted with the public and shared information about the works and artists. They helped facilitate traffic and created a special connection between the work and the viewer. There was an atmosphere of great interest as attendees filled the halls wrapped in images and colors.

These efforts signify that Los Cabos now offers a new cultural and artistic capability that sets it apart. It demonstrates our support for the generation of attractive spaces for visitors to our State and for those who live here and encourages the promotion of local artists to show the art of Baja California Sur to the world.

Consumada la expulsión de los jesuitas, en 1768, el virrey marqués de Croix, de acuerdo con el Visitador José de Gálvez, dispuso que los franciscanos se encargasen de administrar las misiones de la Antigua California. El Colegio Franciscano de San Fernando de México designó para esa tarea a doce frailes, dirigidos por Fray Junípero Serra, quien por entonces evangelizaba en Querétaro, los cuales arribaron a Loreto el 1 de abril del mismo 1768. Cada uno marchó a su misión, en la inteligencia de que nada modificaría hasta la llegada del Visitador Gálvez, que el 6 de junio se instaló en el Real de Santa Ana, al sur de La Paz, con el encargo de proceder al poblamiento de la Nueva o Alta California, concretamente de los puertos de San Diego y Monterrey.

Fray Junípero Serra viajó desde Loreto para entrevistarse con José de Gálvez, y ambos convinieron en despachar dos expediciones a San Diego: una por mar que salió de La Paz el 9 de enero de 1769, en un barco confiscado en San Antonio al empresario minero Manuel de Ocio, y otra terrestre dividida en dos grupos, uno encabezado por Fernando de Rivera y Moncada, Comandante del presidio de Loreto, que inició la marcha desde Santa Ana, y el otro dirigido por el nuevo Gobernador de las Californias, Gaspar de Portolá, quien emprendió el camino poco después de Loreto.

Once the expulsion of the Jesuits was accomplished in 1768, the Viceroy de la Croix, in agreement with the Visitor Jose de Galvez, arranged for the Franciscans to take over the administration of the missions of the Old California. The Franciscan College of San Fernando de Mexico appointed twelve friars for this purpose led by Junipero Serra. At the time, Friar Serra was evangelizing in Queretaro. He arrived in Loreto on April 1st of 1768. All of the friars traveled to their missions with the understanding that no changes were to be made until the arrival of Visitor Galvez. On June 6, Visitor Galvez arrived at the Royal of Santa Ana, south of La Paz, with orders to proceed with the task of colonizing Alta (New) California, specifically the ports of San Diego and Monterrey.

Friar Serra traveled from Loreto to meet with Galvez. They both agreed to dispatch two expeditions to San Diego. The first was by sea. It departed from La Paz on January 9 of 1769 in a boat appropriated in San Antonio from Manuel de Ocio, a mining entrepreneur. The second expedition went by land and was divided into two groups. The first left from Santa Ana and was led by Fernando Rivera y Moncada, commander of the presidium of Loreto. The second was led by the new governor of the Californias, Gaspar de Portola, who started his journey soon after from Loreto.

Everything necessary for the new colonies in Alta California was seized from the former Jesuit establishments. These included native inhabitants, cattle, grain, fruits and vegetables, religious objects, and tools. As a result, the original occupants were left in dire conditions. Friar Serra accompanied the journey by land on March 28th, 1769. Together, he and the governor founded the mission of San Fernando Velicata located south of the current state of Baja California. It was the only mission on the peninsula created by the Franciscans.

Fray Junípero Serra tomó la ruta desde este último lugar el 28 de marzo de 1769; alcanzó al gobernador y fundaron ambos la misión de San Fernando de Velicatá, única creada por los franciscanos en la península, situada en el sur del actual estado de Baja California. Cuatro meses más tarde, el 1 de julio, ya estaban todos en San Diego, excepto la mayoría de los marineros, que murieron durante la travesía. El 16 de julio fue fundada oficialmente la misión que dedicaron a San Diego de Alcalá, y pronto ocurrió el primer ataque de los nativos. Salió una nueva expedición a Monterrey, lugar que no fue encontrado, y sí en cambio el puerto de San Francisco. A la nueva búsqueda de Monterrey salieron dos grupos, conducido el marítimo por Fray Junípero Serra y el terrestre por el gobernador Portolá; el 3 de junio del año siguiente 1770, tomaron posesión del sitio y fundaron la misión de San Carlos Borromeo. Conocidos por el Virrey de Croix estos trabajos y logros, anunció que se enviarían a las Californias 30 frailes más, 10 a San Diego, San Carlos, San Francisco, Santa Clara, San Gabriel Arcángel, San Antonio de Padua y San Luis Obispo, que estaban en proyecto, todos en Alta California. 10 más para la región comprendida entre San Fernando Velicatá y San Diego, donde serán creadas cinco misiones más con los nombres de San Joaquín, Santa Ana, San Juan Capistrano, San Pascual y San Félix, y los 10 últimos a los antiguos establecimientos jesuíticos para acompañar a los frailes que habían quedado en la península.

Less than four months later, on July 1st, all of the colonizers were in San Diego, except for the majority of the sailors who perished during the trip. On July 16th, the mission devoted to San Diego de Alcala was officially dedicated. The first attack by the natives took place shortly after. A new expedition left for Monterrey but a mission was never founded. On the contrary, a new mission was established at the port of San Francisco. Two new groups left for Monterrey. One was by sea and led by Serra. The second was by land and commanded by Governor Portola. On June 3rd of the following year (1770), they took possession of the area and founded the Mission of San Carlos Borromeo. When Viceroy de la Croix learned of these accomplishments, he announced that 30 more friars would be sent to the Californias. Ten were sent to San Diego, San Carlos, San Francisco, Santa Clara, San Gabriel Arcangel, San Antonio de Padua, San Luis Obispo, and other projects located in Alta California. Ten more were sent to the region between San Fernando and San Diego Velicata where five more missions were established with the names of San Joaquin, Santa Ana, San Juan Capistrano, San Pascual and San Felix. The final 10 friars were sent to the former Jesuit establishments on the peninsula to assist the friars who had been left behind by the expeditions. The missions that had been scheduled in the central zone were not completed because the soldiers were engaged in the expedition to Monterrey.

Luego de erigir algunas de las colonias en proyecto, Fray Junípero Serra hizo un viaje a México, por la vía de San Blas (hoy estado de Nayarit), donde consiguió del Virrey Bucareli que la tropa fuera aumentada, se instalaran presidios (fuertes militares) en San Diego, el canal de Santa Bárbara y San Francisco, se formara un reglamento para la administración de aquella zona, se emprendiera una expedición desde la frontera de Sonora para abrir un camino terrestre a efecto de evitar las contingencias de la navegación, y se explorase por mar todavía más el norte de San Francisco.

Father Francisco Palou had been left to care for the missions in the south and to manage the Franciscans in the absence of Serra. In mid 1773, he handed the last mission over to the Dominicans, who had shown interest in California ever since the expulsion of the Jesuits. As a result, the Franciscans were free to dedicate all of their energy to the enterprises in Alta California. It was agreed that the arroyo of San Miguel, north of the city of Ensenada, would be the dividing line between the two jurisdictions. After building some of the colonies, Serra made a trip to Mexico by the road to San Blas (today the state of Nayarit). There he convinced Viceroy Bucareli to increase the number of troops, build presidiums (military forts) in San Diego, construct the canals of Santa Barbara and San Francisco and develop administrative regulations for the area. Serra also wanted to undertake an expedition from the border of Sonora by a land route in order to avoid the difficulties of navigation by sea and to further offshore explorations north of San Francisco. The final agreement resulted in several expeditions. The most successful reached a latitude of 60°, almost to the Russian posts in Alaska. In theory at least, it could be said that the border of the Californias stretched all the way to the vast territories of the north.

Fray Junípero Serra volvió a levantarla al año siguiente y creó enseguida la Misión de San Juan Capistrano. En 1777 nació la Misión de Santa Clara y el pueblo de San José. Un año antes, la Corona había dispuesto el establecimiento de la Comandancia General de las Provincias Internas, dentro de las cuales quedaban incluidas las Californias junto con Nueva Vizcaya, Nuevo México, Sonora, Sinaloa, Coahuila y Texas. El caballero Teodoro de Croix, nombrado su comandante, ordenó la fundación de un presidio y tres misiones más, así como un pueblo de españoles que llamaron de Nuestra Señora de los Ángeles, que estuvo en funciones a finales de 1781. Fray Junípero Serra murió el 28 de agosto de 1784, a la edad de 70 años, en la misión de San Carlos de Monterrey. Las poblaciones que se establecieron en aquella tierra durante quince años, y otras más que fueron levantadas después de su muerte, constituyen verdaderos monumentos a su memoria y a la del resto de sus compañeros de religión, que en tan ardua empresa hubieron de enfrentarse no sólo a las condiciones de la tierra y de sus nativos, sino a la incomprensión e intransigencia de las autoridades civiles locales y del centro del virreinato.

At the end of 1775, the mission in San Diego was set afire by the native inhabitants. A friar and a blacksmith were killed. Serra returned the following year to re-build the structures and created the mission of San Juan Capistrano. In 1777, the mission of Santa Clara and the town of San Jose were created. One year before, the Crown had established the General Command of the Internal Provinces. Included were the Californias, Nueva Vizcaya, New Mexico, Sonora, Sinaloa, Coahuila and Texas. The knight Teodoro de Croix was appointed commander. He ordered the foundation of a presidium, three additional missions, and a town called Nuestra Señora de Los Angeles, which was begun at the end of 1781. Friar Junipero Serra died on August 28, 1784 at the mission of San Carlos in Monterrey. He was 70 years of age. The towns that were established during that fifteen-year period as well as others that were founded after his death, stand as monuments to his memory and to the memory of his religious colleagues. They faced not only the harsh conditions of the land and the brutality of the native inhabitants, but the ignorance and intransigence of the viceroyalty and civilian authorities.

Planeando el Gran Día

l le puso el anillo, se publicó en el periódico y la pareja actualizó sus páginas de Facebook. Es oficial, la boda se va a realizar, pero ésta va a ser inolvidable. La joven pareja ha decidido casarse en Los Cabos. Ricardo y Denise han visitado la Baja en varias ocasiones y se han enamorado del lugar, explorando la cultura y las olas para surfear a lo largo de la costa. Magical Loreto and its legends Las leyendas de Loreto son numerosas y variadas, algunas de ellas tienen sus orígenes en el tiempo en que Misioneros Jesuitas italianos llegaron a este lugar en donde fascinados escuchaban leyendas de los nativos de Loreto, quienes contaban cómo sus antepasados emigraron de territorios del norte por primera vez cientos de años atrás para poblar estas tierras estériles, como castigo tras haber sido derrotados por otras tribus y cómo cuando una persona buena moría su espíritu regresaba a los territorios del norte donde la naturaleza era rica y la tierra fértil. El primer asentamiento elegido por los Misioneros Jesuitas en la península, fue originalmente en un lugar al norte del pueblo de Loreto conocido como San Bruno. Los Misioneros enfrentaron diversos problemas en ese lugar, entre ellos la escasez de agua. Entre estos eventos, cuenta la leyenda que la mula que cargaba la imagen de la virgen, tomaba camino en cualquier descuido de los Misioneros con la estatua al lomo y no paraba hasta llegar a la sombra de un laurel donde se echaba.

Cuando los misioneros encontraban a la mula, no había poder humano que la levantara y la figura de la virgen se tornaba extremadamente pesada para levantarla del lomo de la mula, en las ocasiones que lograban regresar a la mula, se desataba y volvía al mismo lugar.

The first settlement on the peninsula chosen by the Jesuit missionaries was originally a site located north of what today is the town of Loreto, known as San Bruno. The missionaries faced many problems here including the scarcity of water.

Los misioneros creyeron entonces que era elección de la virgen este sitio para construir la Misión, así es ahora el lugar donde se encuentra ubicada con la imagen de la virgen al centro del retablo.

During that time, the legends tell of a mule carrying the statue of the virgin, which today is the center of the altarpiece at the Mission of Loreto. When the missionaries weren’t looking, the mule went its own way with the statue on its back. It didn’t stop until it reached the shade of a laurel where it laid down. The missionaries found the mule but the statue of the Virgin became extremely heavy and impossible to remove from the mule’s back. In fact, no human power could lift it. The mule eventually went on its way but every time the missionaries brought it on the same path, it would return to the site under the laurel.

The legends of Loreto are numerous and varied. Some have their origins in the time when the Italian Jesuit missionaries arrived here. They were fascinated by the original legends told by the natives of Loreto. They explained how their ancestors emigrated from northern territories for the first time hundreds of years ago to inhabit these barren lands as a punishment after being defeated by other tribes. There were tales of how the spirit of a good person that died would go back to the northern territories where he would find rich and fertile nature and land.

It was because of this, the missionaries believed the site, where the mission is now located, was the Virgin´s choice.

El marco de referencia de la narrativa que abordamos en este libro es acerca de la literatura que se realiza en Baja California Sur, entre 1885-1995. Ínsula en cuyos paisajes se crean estos testimonios literarios, permitiendo analizar aspectos de la vida cotidiana a través de la escritura de sus pobladores, en los que está implicado el concepto de región e identidad manteniéndose ambos en una correspondencia. Gracias a la investigación realizada, este libro ofrece al lector la oportunidad de acercarse a la literatura manifestada a lo largo de cien años.

Semblanza de los autores

Rubén Sandoval, originario de La Paz. Licenciado en Lenguas Modernas (Francesas) con Maestría y Doctorado en Literatura Comparada por la Sorbona de París. Autor de teatro, poesía, ensayo, novela y cuento. Acreedor de distinciones internacionales en las áreas de difusión de la cultura y las artes. Destaca su labor de investigación, así como docente. Traductor, productor teatral y conferencista. Leticia Garriga, originaria de México, DF. Vive en La Paz desde 1981. Lic. En Lengua y Literatura por la Universidad Autónoma del Estado. Cursó la Maestría en Educación, con especialidad en Docencia. Ha contribuido activamente en el ambiente literario desde el año 2000. Parte de su obra ha sido incluida en: Memorias, Antologías y Estudios Regionales, Nacionales e Internacionales de poesía, ensayo y narrativa. Ha sido coautora en estudios de investigación literaria. Una selección de su obra poética ha sido traducida al inglés, rumano, portugués y catalán. Patricia Gorostieta Monjaraz, con una trayectoria en producción literaria, formo parte del Seminario de Investigación en Literatura Regional de la Universidad Autónoma de Baja California Sur. The landscapes of the isle in which these literary testimonies are created, allow us to analyze the aspects of daily life through the writing of their inhabitants, in which the concept of region and regional identity are correspondingly involved. Thanks to precise research, the book offers the reader an opportunity to get close to the literature manifested over a hundred years.

Ruben Sandoval, born in La Paz. A graduate in Modern Languages (French) with Masters and PhD degrees in Comparative Literature at the Sorbonne in Paris. Author of theater, poetry, essays, novels and short stories. He has received international distinctions for his experience in the diffusion of culture and art. Outstanding researcher and teacher. Translator, theater producer and lecturer. Leticia Garriga, born in Mexico City. Has lived in La Paz since 1981. Graduated in Language and Literature from B.C.S. State University. Masters Degree in Education with a major in teaching. Has actively contributed to the literary environment since 2000. Part of her work has been included in Memories, Anthologies, and Regional, National and International poetry, essay and narrative studies. Today, she is the She has been co-author of studies in literary research. A selection of her poetry has been translated into English, Romanian, Portuguese and Catalan. Patricia Gorostieta Monjaraz, with a trajectory in literary production, was part of formed the Research Seminar in literature of the Regional B.C.S. State University. Actualmente, Guerrero Negro es una creciente población que alberga a la compañía salinera más grande del mundo, siendo ésta la principal actividad económica de la población. Agencias locales ofrecen tours para admirar el colorido espectáculo que ofrece el infinito suelo blanco en contraste con la enorme maquinaria naranja que lo recoge. En esta peculiar población se ubica la Reserva de la Biósfera de El Vizcaíno, cuenta con 2,500 hectáreas y fue nombrada por la UNESCO en 1993 como Patrimonio Cultural de la Humanidad, alberga en su territorio a la Laguna Ojo de Liebre, hogar invernal de la ballena gris que de enero a marzo arriba a sus costas para cumplir con sus ciclos de apareamiento y nacimiento de sus crías, atrayendo así a cientos de turistas provenientes de todo el mundo para admirar este maravilloso espectáculo natural.

Located on the 28th parallel, Guerrero Negro is the gateway to Baja California Sur for those traveling on Transpeninsular Highway #1 from the State of Baja California, and for those entering our country from the border city of Tijuana. The name Guerrero Negro comes from a whaling ship called the "Black Warrior" that ran aground in the lagoon in December 1858. Today, Guerrero Negro is a flourishing community where the main economic activity is one of the largest salt companies of the world. Local agencies offer tours to admire the colorful contrast of the infinite white ground with the huge orange machinery. The Vizcaino Biosphere Reserve, 2,500 hectacres in size, is located near this village. In 1993, UNESCO named the Reserve a Cultural Heritage of Humanity. The Ojo de Liebre lagoon located in the Reserve is the winter home to the gray whale. The giant mammals arrive at these shores every year from January to March to complete the cycle of mating and giving birth.

También en parte de la Reserva del Desierto de El Vizcaíno se han encontrado 463 especies de flora destacando 37 especies endémicas, mientras que en su fauna existen 308 especies, sobresale el Berrendo Peninsular, cuya especie se encuentra dentro de los Programas de Conservación y la visita al campamento es una parada obligada para quien recorre el Vizcaíno. Para aquellos que gustan de admirar el arte rupestre, en Guerrero Negro hay agencias de viajes que ofrecen recorridos para visitar los murales de Mesa del Carmen en el paralelo 28 o a los grandes murales de la Sierra de San Francisco.

SISTEMA CRIT AMOR Y CIENCIA AL SERVICIO DE LA VIDA LOVE AND SCIENCE FOR LIFE Desde hace más de diez años surge el Sistema de Centros de Rehabilitación Infantil Teletón (SCRIT), que tiene como objetivo unificar la estructura de funcionamiento y mantener los mismos estándares de calidad en todos sus centros, esto ante la necesidad que tienen los niños con discapacidad neuromotora. Así, nace Fundación Teletón en el año 1997, institución privada sin fines de lucro. Con ese fin, se une el país en torno a una noble causa en la que México requería la atención y el seguimiento necesario, tras la realización del primer Evento Teletón, se inició la construcción del primer Centro de Rehabilitación Infantil Teletón (CRIT) en Tlalnepantla, Estado de México. Actualmente el SCRIT tiene una capacidad de atención de más de 66 mil pacientes en sus 20 centros en operación en toda la República Mexicana. Cuentan con el sistema de rehabilitación pediátrica más grande del mundo y suman a la causa el autismo y el cáncer por la creciente necesidad de atención integral en esos temas. En 2012 se abrió el primer Centro Autismo Teletón y a finales de este año iniciará operaciones el Hospital Infantil Teletón de Oncología.

For more than 10 years, the Telethon Children's Rehabilitation System Centers (SCRIT) has been hard at work helping children with neurological disorders. The organization’s goal is to unify the operating structure and maintain the same standards of quality in all the centers. As a result, the private, non-profit Telethon Foundation was founded in 1997. The foundation helped the country unite around a noble cause that required Mexico’s much needed attention. After the first Telethon Event, construction began of the first Children's Rehabilitation Center Telethon (CRIT) in the City of Tlalnepantla, State of Mexico. Currently, SCRIT provides services to more than 66,000 patients in 20 centers of operation across Mexico. SCRIT is home to the largest pediatric rehabilitation system in the world and, due to a growing need, has added comprehensive care for autism and cancer.
