the importance of boat insurance

Do you love boating? Then you know how fun and relaxing it can be on the open water. But you also know that things can go wrong sometimes, like storms, accidents, theft, or injuries. That’s why boat insurance is so important. Here are some reasons why.

• Boat insurance can help you pay for damage to your boat, or to other boats or docks, up to specifed limits.

• If you borrowed money to buy your boat, your lender may require insurance. And if you want to explore different places, some marinas or waterways may ask you to show proof of insurance.

Progressive Casualty Ins. Co. and af fliates Coverages subject to policy terms and conditions.

• Boat insurance can also come in handy if you need an on-water tow, jump start, or fuel delivery with optional Sign & Glide® coverage. And if your boat sinks, boat insurance can pay for the cost of removing it from the water (if removal is legally required).

Get boat insurance from Progressive and enjoy the peace of mind that comes with it.

Swordfshing is great any time of the year, but during summer you can justify the fuel burn to get where they live. It’s nearly impossible to run that far ofshore in June and not come across diving birds indicative of mahi or tuna. With minimal efort, this can be a nice score to put something in the box if you don’t have luck with the swords. It is normal to get skunked while swordfshing, and I don’t recommend going if you can’t accept that possibility. Te best way to go into it is to be fully prepared for both a fsh of a lifetime or to just chill with friends. Make no mistake, when you do land one of these beasts, it’s some of the most exciting fshing you can experience, and it’s worth the skunk risk.

Although you don’t have to run as far, the same consolation prize applies to heading out for tilefsh, snowy and yellowedge grouper, queen snapper, barrelfsh and rosies. Mahi fshing to, from and during deep-dropping rounds out a trip nicely.

Be prepared for mahi when heading ofshore in summer. Keep at least four rods designated for working a school and more for trolling. J hooks are a must for these head-shaking, sky-rocketing, fippy-fappy, squirm-fsh, but just about any line and bait will do. Tese tasty little dummies aren’t picky and would strike a banana peel if you jigged it right. Tat said, the speed of the bait is a variable you might have to adapt to. Teir toddler mentality kicks in when you try to take a bait away from them, encouraging them to strike something they just turned their nose up at. If you get hit when reeling in your bait, open your bail and give them a chance to eat.

If you get excited about fsh with pointy faces, be prepared for a marlin encounter this time of year. I keep rigged ballyhoo in a trolling spread and a pitch rod set up. Marlin aren’t overly common here, but when you see one, you want to be prepared for more than to simply wave and think, “that was neat.”

SUMMERTIME’S BACK, BABY!

ummer in the Keys, albeit hotter than the devil’s you-know-where, is one of the best times to be on the water. With more calm days, open seasons for most species, and mahi peppering ofshore waters, this is the time of year to boogie out and hunt for whatever tickles your fancy.

Marlin enjoy a mahi snack as much as we do and will pop up unexpectedly while mahi fshing. If you have a large live bait, toss that sucker out. If not, a mahi from the box will do in a pinch. Give her time to eat, hang on and enjoy the ride.

Mahi season is already of to a great start for both size and numbers. Come on down and fll your coolers!

FISH THE GREATER JACKSONVILLE KINGFISH TOURNEY JULY 13-20!

The “Grandaddy of all Kingfsh Tournaments” will get the First Coast buzzing July 13-20, as the 44th annual Greater Jacksonville Kingfsh Tournament presented by VyStar Credit Union hosts a full week of tournaments with more than $500,000 in cash and prizes.

Te competition kicks of July 13 with the Kingfsh Kick Of Beach Tournament, in which competitors are limited to state waters within 3 miles of shore. Tis event evens the odds for the smaller boats to haul in the largest kingfsh of the day and collect the $50,000 cash prize.

Fishing for the General Tournament begins Friday morning, July 19. Tis cornerstone event pays out to 20 places for both large fsh and aggregate. First place for largest fsh of the tournament will be awarded a Contender 28T with twin 200 Yamaha outboards, an Ameritrail Trailer and a custom T-top and leaning post by Custom Marine. Tis boat package is valued at more than $225,000.

Junior anglers have a shot at a 16foot boat with a 15 hp Yamaha, and the Junior Ofshore Tournament pays out to 25 places. Te Ladies Division pays out to 10 places.

cold beverages, hot food and vendors. Awards Day on Saturday, July 20 is all about celebration, with Kids Zone activities, rafes and seminars.

For inshore anglers, the popular Redfsh Tournament fshes on Saturday, July 20 with payouts of more than $12,000.

Jacksonville Marine Charities is the operating arm of the event, and it supports non-profts throughout the state. Recently, Child Cancer Fund, the Down Syndrome Association and the Child Guidance Center have beneftted from the organization, which also supports other local charity fshing events like Te Premier Trout, Flounder Pounder, Wounded Heroes on the Water and others.

All the boats and fsh coming to the docks at Jim King Park and Boat Ramp at Sisters Creek Park in Jacksonville creates a festival atmosphere. Te

Trout are Eating Your Nymph More than You Realize

Alarge trout rising to a high-riding dry fy is one of life’s true pleasures. It’s pretty darn easy to see. Te fy is bouncing happily along the surface, and with a splash it’s gone.

On the other hand, that same fat rainbow trout sucking in a nymph 6 feet down in a dark run may not be as obvious. When you’re nymphing, speed is of the essence. In a second, that fsh will expel the fy. Tere are a bunch of diferent strike indicators designed to help you see the sometimes-faint signal of a hit. Some work well, some break, some slide, and some just suck.

I love yarn indicators for their sensitivity and the plastic air-flled bobbers for ease of use. Both styles rigged up the leader about twice the depth of the water you’re fshing help you detect the strike. Any hesitation, dive or shif in direction of your indicator might be a hit.

I tell clients, if they think a fsh might even be breathing on the fy to set the hook! You get a heck of a lot more strikes than you think you do when nymph fshing. Any slack between your indicator and fy allows a fsh eat and spit your nymph out, and sometimes go completely undetected.

At close range, high-stick or Czech-nymphing techniques work great. No indicator is needed, as diferent colored lines or coiled-line indicators that straighten when a fsh takes are the deal. A lot of the time, the trout is felt when it takes the fy, or you will see the line suddenly stop. Tis method is deadly in experienced hands.

Another method of strike indication is the use of a big dry fy as the

indicator. Usually, a piece of fuorocarbon tippet is tied to the hook and a nymph or two hang underneath. Tis is a good when the fsh might spook if a plastic bobber crashes on their heads. A buggy looking dry fy is a lot less scary.

Another cool way to catch trout on subsurface fies is to watch them eat it. I call this ninja fshing! You’ll need the sun at your back or directly overhead. Start by locating a particular fsh, and then tie on a brightly colored fy that stands out and is easy to see. Cast upstream of the fsh, and let it drif down to the fsh. Sometimes a fy bounced right into their face will get a refex strike. Tis is a good way to learn how fsh react to fies and how currents afect your ofering. If you are in a pool with several fsh, you might be amazed at how many fsh take a swipe at it. You will then realize how many strikes you’ve been missing.

SCHOOLING PERMIT ON THE WRECKS

Permit schools have been sighted in the Florida Keys over the past couple of months, and June marks the fnal stretch of their journey. Tese elusive permit are wrapping up their ‘spring break’ routine and are heading to some of our ofshore wrecks to spawn.

Tis time of year can be great for permit, because they school up and provide ample opportunity for hook-ups. Pursuing a permit takes strategy and stamina, since these fsh are known for putting up a serious battle. Any angler who is interested in trying to land one of these

prized sportfsh needs to know what they are signing up for.

When fshing for permit on ofshore wrecks in Islamorada, we usually target schools around wreck sites like the Eagle in June. Tese wrecks are typically on the ocean side in deeper waters, ranging from about 30 to 100 feet deep.

For tackle, we typically use 6500 combos with fuorocarbon leaders and circle hooks. Spotting and sight-casting to permit is usually the goto method. Tis means looking for glimpses of fashing silver just below the surface. Permit love

crabs, and they have great eyesight. fcial crabs like the Savage Gear 3D Crab are very realistic, and they are ective and cost-friendly. However, it’s tough to beat a live blue crab for permit bait. Hook them through the shell to keep them lively. Let the crab swim freely to drif into the school of permit and prepare for action. ght, fne-tuning the drag is crucial with permit because overpowering them won’t do the trick. You want the drag set just right, enough to make progress when reeling in, but allowing the permit to run… and it will run.

Permit are one of the most sought-afer sportfsh in the Keys because they’re notorious for their incredible strength. Anyone who’s ever hooked one can tell you that they’re strong enough to make even the toughest angler break a sweat. Once you do land your frst permit, it is a moment you’ll never forget.

While they are a ton of fun, permit aren’t known as a particularly desirable food fsh. Catch and release is the way to go because they play a crucial role in our ecosystem, and releasing them safely helps ensure we’ll have permit to play with in the future. Land them as quickly as you can. Handle them gently for a quick release to minimize stress and ensure the fshery thrives.

Many times while permit fshing, we encounter exciting bycatch like other jack species, grouper and snapper. It’s all about the thrill of the catch in these beautiful waters of the Florida Keys.

A 9-Year-Old’s First For-Real Fishing Trip

Remember the frst time you went fshing for real? For many of us, the earliest trips elicit memories of a blue plastic container of red wigglers, a red-and-white plastic bobber and the ripe muddy fsh smell of an active bluegill bed. But that’s not what I’m talking about. I’m talking about the frst time you went fshing for real.

Maybe it was the year you were fnally allowed on the annual charter trip? Or perhaps it was the long-planned bass fshing weekend with Grandpa? Whatever it was, the person who took you decided you were ready to grow beyond the pushbutton-reel stage of fshing. It was on that trip when you became one of the crew instead of the kid who stayed home with mom.

Remember gathering your gear in anticipation? Remember waking up throughout the night and checking the clock to make sure you didn’t sleep through the alarm?

Jackson Willer, 9, of Melbourne, Fla., recently experienced his frst for-real fshing trip. Really, Jackson has fshed most of his life. His frst fsh was a jack crevalle caught with his Pop-Pop, Chris Willer, and his Mimi, Joann Willer, when he was 3 years old. But the Willer men are saltwater people, and when Jackson’s older cousin Ryan Willer, 21, told him to be ready early the next morning because they were going fshing, it was something new and exciting… his frst trip as one of the boys.

In the morning, before Ryan and Jackson lef for Sebastian Inlet, Pop-Pop pulled a special surprise from the back of his truck. He handed the 9-year-old a Penn 450SS mounted on an Ugly Stik. With freshwater wash downs and occasional cleaning, these vintage reels spin smoothly for decades. Chris (aka Pop-Pop) had been fshing this one since he bought it in the 1980s.

“I’m going to take care of it for as long as I possibly can,” said Jackson

on receiving the gif. “It feels really special. He was the one that taught me how to use a shing rod and all that stuf.”

So…armed with the rod and reel and a tank of live shrimp, Jackson and Ryan fshing for “I thought, there he goes. He’s running with the pack now. He doesn’t need us anymore,” said Joann (aka Mimi).

It wasn’t exactly a jam-up day on the water, but that’s fshing, and Jackson had fun.

“First I caught a redfsh, and then I caught a snook,” Jackson said. “It was pretty fun trying to reel it in and everything. It was hard and it was fun.” Jackson also said he doesn’t know when the next trip is, but he’s excited.

And that’s the whole point. Even if it’s just another day on the water for you, remember that the kid you’re taking was likely lying awake last night seeing visions of monster fsh and epic drag-peeling battles.

If you’ve got a great fshing story to tell, email us at editorial@coastalanglermagazine.com.

The first scheduled tournament will be Saturday, September 21st, 2024, followed by October 12th, November 9th, December 7th, January 11th, 2025, February 8th, 2025 and March 2nd, 2025. April 12th and 13th are scheduled for the season-ending Classic.

“I’m excited about taking over the Big Show from Joe Kozic this year. He ran a tight ship and did a great job. There may be a few changes, but for the most part, things will remain pretty much the same,” he said in a recent interview.

“We had a great turnout the last couple of years and we’re hoping for even more bass fishermen and women to join us in the future.”

What

is a bass's favorite food?

Threadfin shad, shiners, and bluegill are very common in our Florida lakes, and this is what usually represents a bass’s favorite food. On Lake Istokpoga, we collect thousands of threadfin shad in our fall electrofishing sample, so it is likely the main source of food for bass. Larger bass will also feed on gizzard shad and larger bluegill and redears too, which we also document in our electrofishing sampling.

As for what this means for your fishing strategies, this will depend on the time of year you are fishing. In winter months, when water temperatures are cooler, try slower presentations by crawling a crankbait, spinnerbait, or a jig. As the water warms up and bass are willing to chase, moving baits like spinnerbaits, buzzbaits, and Texas rigs work well. During the summer, bass will seek shade in vegetation or try to hide out in deeper water. Wacky rigs and frogs will work best for this time of year.

Come

Mywife and I were in downtown Lake Placid last month when she saw a farmers’ market and of course, we had to stop. She loves flowers, plants, and growing things. I love to fish.

As we walked around the different booths offering every type of vegetable you can imagine, I heard my favorite singer, Harry Chapin singing Taxi. I couldn’t see where the sound was coming from, but I figured it had to be a CD since he passed away years ago. But I was sure it was Harry Chapin. As I rounded a corner booth, to my amazement, a guy was standing there with a mike, singing, but it certainly wasn’t Harry Chapin. I was shocked! For those of you who don’t know who Harry Chapin is, I highly recommend that you look him up on the internet. I’m sure some folks may not remember his name, but they would likely recognize some of his songs. Taxi and Cats in the Cradle were huge hits for him back in the 70s, and they are still pretty popular today.

When the singer finished the song, I walked up, put a tip in the jar, and told him how good I thought he was. I told him I knew every song Chapin ever sang. He was my all-time favorite singer. I couldn’t believe how much he sounded like Harry Chapin.

I shook his hand and asked if he had a business card.

As I started to walk away, he started singing another song, I read his name on the business card, and I looked back in disbelief. I couldn’t believe it. Harry Havery!

I had met him before, and his son Harrison did the accounting for my business. I walked back and apologized for not recognizing him.

After meeting Harry and realizing he was part of The California Toe Jam band, one of, if not the best vocal group in Florida, I wanted to learn more about him and the band members, so I invited them to lunch at Galati’s Family

ISTOKPOGA FISHING FORECAST

Summertime on Beautiful Lake Istokpoga

My husband Corky and I have been providing bass fishing and crappie/bluegill guide trips on Lake Istokpoga for the last six years, and we love this lake.

Bass fishing is hugely popular, and Corky stays really busy for a good portion of the year. Crappie season is a bit shorter, usually ending around April and starting up again in the fall. We are starting bluegill season, which will last all summer.

We both have our own boats. Corky runs his bass fishing guide trips on a 21-foot Ranger Bass Boat, which can be compared to the Cadillac of bass boats. I run my fishing trips on my 18-foot Sun Tracker pontoon boat. The pontoon has a 1,200-pound capacity and can easily accommodate 5 people fishing comfortably. The pontoon is very stable, which is more comfortable for my clients. It has plenty of room to walk and move around during our time on the water and it has plenty of storage for my needed supplies and equipment for guide trips.

Although I enjoy running and gunning with Corky in the bass boat on tournament days, I really do appreciate the laid-back, steady, slow, easy, relaxing feel of the pontoon when guiding clients. My pontoon is equipped with a sun canopy for protection from the fierce Florida sun, an Ultrex trolling motor, Garmin Live Scope, Hummingbird Helix, and my most recent upgrade and birthday present from my wonderful husband, a Power Pole. This shallow water anchor is a must-have on Lake Istokpoga. Beyond

stormy weather and catching fish, my only concern is the wind, but my new power pole makes holding the boat so much easier.

Many may not know that I also offer pontoon rides on beautiful Lake Istokpoga, allowing folks to see the lake, birds, and other wildlife. On very calm days alligators may be seen basking in the sun.

If you are interested in cruising Lake Istokpoga, taking a sunrise or sunset cruise, or booking a guided fishing tour, give us a call at 606-5840144, we can hook you up! Enjoy The Summer on Jet Ski’s

As teenagers, we were always on the water.

My brother and I would camp out with our buddies at one of the area lakes and we’d be up before dawn, anxious to catch some bass or bluegill before the summer heat set in.

We always had a full day of activities planned. The day would begin with some early morning bass fishing, followed by a campfire lunch, often burning our catch to an unrecognizable state, and then spending the afternoon boating and water skiing.

We grew up in Ohio, and I know it’s not Florida, summertime can still rival any of the southern states for hot, humid, sticky days. But we loved the water, and water skiing was almost as much fun as fishing.

Years later I tried water skiing with some friends, and I surprised myself that I could still do it at the ripe old age of 40. But I have to admit, the next day, every muscle in my body hurt. To this day I’ve never done anything that caused that many sore muscles. It’s surprising how out-of-shape we get as we get older.

Years later, in my 50’s, I discovered jet skis. My first exposure was on Lake Jackson in Sebring Florida, and I couldn’t believe how much fun it was!

We were flying around Little Lake Jackson, and it was like water skiing and driving my bass boat at high speed. Of course, the jet skis don’t go as fast as my Ranger, but it sure feels like it. But one of the best things about jet ski’s…..the next day you don’t feel like you spent the day working out with Arnold.

How I wished we had had jet skis when I was younger.

I was curious when Jet skis were invented so I looked it up. 1965. Wow, I had no idea they had been around that long. According to what I read; the term jet ski is synonymous with personal watercraft. However, it's a brand

name for unique water crafts manufactured by Kawasaki in Japan. Clayton Jacobson II originally designed the first personal watercraft in 1965. As a dirt bike racer, Clayton realized that a crash on the ground was cruel, water could be a little softer.

In Highlands County, Lake June Pontoons rents jet skis on beautiful Lake June. I stopped by the other day to speak to Kristen Smoyer, the owner, and she showed me the jet skis that she rents out, along with her Deck and Pontoon Boats. And the price is pretty reasonable.

So now, at 75, I’m making plans with my son and grandson to rent a couple Jet Ski’s so they can experience some of the fun I had growing up on the water. With the summer heat already here, you might want to call ahead to reserve your jet skis, Deck or Pontoon Boats. The number to call is 863-464-0236. I guarantee you it will be a lot of fun.

Restaurant in Sebring.

Of course, my first question was, “Where did you get that name? Well, according to Harry, back when he was a senior at Sebring High School, the guidance counselor asked him to put together a band for their upcoming Homecoming rally, THUNDER. At the time, they had no desire to name the band, but the cheerleading sponsor insisted on having a band name on the posters. The guys in the band – Havery, Hollinger, plus students Richie Shepard, Jay Grubb, and Mike McElfresh and band director Roger Nubern couldn’t come up with anything good, no matter how hard they tried. Having given up on a name, they started into what would become a ritual

teasing Roger about his Flip-Flop-clad feet and his toe jam. Someone yelled, That’s it! TOE JAM! Since the name for the homecoming that year was Back to the Beach, they stuck California in front of the name, and it just stuck.

So, while we enjoyed the biggest and best pizza I’ve ever seen or eaten at Galati’s, I learned more about the band's history and each member.

One of the band members, TJ Kinyon is not only a member of the band, but he’s also a fisherman. And I met him many years ago when I lived in Avon Park.

TJ grew up on a canal on Lake Bonnet, fishing almost every day and every weekend. He loves to fish and play the guitar. At 15 he was invited to join a band if he could play the bass guitar. So, he bought one and took lessons from an old jazz guitar player in Sebring.

He’s played in different bands over the years joining the California Toe Jam Band over thirty years ago. His first date with his wife Julie was originally to go to a movie, but at the last minute, his band got a booking, so they ended up going to the show where he was playing. The next day he took her fishing and today, almost 50 years later, they continue to enjoy both endeavors.

Jordan Terrell plays the keyboard, and guitar and sings in the band. He grew up in Sebring and was introduced to the band through his church (CTG made up the majority of the worship team there). Jordan was mentored in music and ministry by Harry Havery and when he was old enough to drive, Harry asked him to join the band. He played with CTJ for 3 years and then moved to Virginia for college at Liberty University. After getting married, having two kids, and moving to Texas, he moved back to Sebring to take the worship pastor job at the same church, Bible Fellowship Church on Hammock Road in Sebring. Harry called before they had even moved to

3-D ARCHERY

Here we are in June sitting at the precipice of season-opening, at least for South Florida. As we wait, we could be doing a lot of things to make ourselves better. Bow fishing is one of them, but another that hits closer to home would be 3-D Archery.  Shooting 3-D archery refines that archery skill. It puts you in the elements with your bow giving you similar shots you may take while hunting. Some of the best archery kills have been a direct cause of shooting 3-D shoots.

As I mentioned 3-D Archery, refines that Archery skill, and what that means is instead of settling for a pie plate accuracy it makes you have to shoot better. On a 3-D target, there are scoring rings. The smallest of these rings would represent a 12 or 11 depending on what style tournament. The ring outside of that would be a 10. Outside of the 10 you have the 8 ring.  The body of the target is a 5 and if you miss that would be a zero. The goal is to hit the higher-scoring ring which means you have to settle in your shot. Take your time and perform a good execution. This active performance makes you work for it which then makes you settle down to think about your shot. Helping you give it your best to make that better score. Also, it’s not just one target that you shoot. Most of these 3-D tournaments have you shoot up to 20 different 3-D animals! This gives you several chances to work on your execution. If you made a bad shot, this allows you to learn and then fix it for your next shot. This process makes training fun and pays big dividends when you walk in on opening day. 3-D tournaments. Also, put you in the elements that you would actually

hunt. Especially down here in Florida! It not only gets very hot, but you also have a good chance of getting carried away by mosquitoes while trying to figure out if it’s not going to rain. Most hard-core 3-D events unless it’s lightning will continue with their tournament so it gives you awesome opportunities to shoot your rig in whatever environment you may encounter while hunting. Sometimes wind can make or break a hunt if you don’t know how to shoot in it, sometimes shadowing can cause you to hit in the wrong place. Sometimes the distance of an animal can throw you off on what pin to use or where to set your site. All these problems can be rectified by shooting 3-D tournaments, so you know what to do when that situation may arise On top of all that more time behind your bow in the woods just makes you a better archer. You become more one with your bow and you gain more confidence with your shot! Carrying your bow target to target will help with your endurance for when you go hunting, some tournaments put the targets at extreme angles, so you may have to shoot differently than straight on. This helps you with animals that don’t come in on a string like they’re supposed to (haha)! With 3-D you also end up shooting with a group of people and it also adds extra pressure to perform well which generates a very similar feeling like buck fever.  So you can start getting acquainted with that pressure and it not be so new when you’re sitting in front of your prized animal. The more 3-D Archery that you do the more you will start to see all the little things that need to be addressed and you will start whittling away all those problems. You start to notice your accuracy is through the roof because you’ve put yourself in the situations that help you become better!

If you’re new to Archery or an avid archery hunter you owe it to yourself to find your local 3-D archery tournaments and get yourself plugged in! Whether it’s an independent archery shoot or an archery club, 3-D Archery will take your archery performance and fine-tune in every aspect. Here at Skull Hill Archery, we have a 50-yard 3-D range that you can definitely cut your teeth on and from there we can help you find 3-D archery shoots near you!

The 33rd Caladium Festival, Car, and Bike Show

July 26th, 27th and 28th, 2024

I’m a fisherman, not a flower and plant guy, or even a car and bike enthusiast, but my wife and I plan on going to this event every year, and we’re always glad that we did. We live in Golf Hammock, in Sebring, and her flower gardens are filled with every shape, size, and color of these incredible plants.

My wife was a floral designer, and she loves plants and flowers, and caladiums are one of her favorites. Florida summers can be tough on outdoor plants but one of her favorite caladiums that can take the full sun is called Flash. Two of her other favorites are Moonlight, a white caladium, and Malibu Barbie, a pretty pink one. She is really looking forward to this year's festival.

As always, I tag along grudgingly for the food and the car show (I like her to think I’m making a sacrifice by not going fishing), but truthfully, I love the flowers. Oop’s, she just corrected me. They’re not flowers, they’re plants.

This is the one time of the year you can purchase your own caladium bulbs and plants and get to see where each variety comes from. You can also meet the growers. Plus, there will also be an opportunity to watch a free video about the history of caladiums.

As much as I enjoy seeing the different plants and meeting the growers, I also enjoy the air-conditioned bus tour around Lake Placid to see the beautiful, landscaped properties throughout Lake Placid.

But for my part, I look forward to the car and bike show too. I’m not a car guy, or even a bike guy, although I’ve owned some pretty cool cars, and as the General Manager of a Harley Davidson dealership in Ohio, a number of Harley’s. I just like to see all the old classics, as well as the new cars and bikes of the day.

The festival also includes a floral arrangement competition, sponsored by the Lake Placid Gar-

den Club; Arts and Crafts booths; Florida Friendly Landscape and Ornamental Plants and the Caladium Festival Art Competition. And of course, food and entertainment. With over 150 craft vendors, as well as our local wineries, Toby’s Clowns, food, a beer garden, and MORE, there will be no shortage of things to see and do.

So, make plans to come out and join us at the 2024 Caladium Festival Car and Bike Show on Saturday, July 26th, 27th, and 28th. If you’re new to the area or you’ve lived here all your life, you might want to save the dates and bring the family to one of the biggest events of the year in Highlands County, Florida.

What’s biting now fishing on Lake Okeechobee? Bass and Bluegill. The crappie bite ended in the latter part of April and was another stellar season for both quantity and quality specks and bass. The bluegill are spawning in the shallows and will continue throughout the summer months into early fall, so if you do not want to fish in the heat and avoid afternoon rain showers, October is a great time to book a trip for bluegill, crappie, and bass.

I provide all tackle for all variety of species and my new fully rigged Caymas bass boat can accommodate 1-3 anglers. If you are waiting to book a trip for crappie “specks” I would suggest booking several months out to get your preferred date(s).

The crappie and bass spawn happen during the winter and early spring months, and it is also the busiest time of year to fish the big O. Areas out on the lake to try now are Kissimmee River; Tin house; 2nd to 4th Point; parts of Indian Prairie; parts of Horse Island and the Dyess Ditch area; some areas in the Monkey box and Shoal and the north/west side of Dupree bar. If you are fishing the east side, try the areas around Nub N Slough, Hendry Creek and around J & S back in.

Bass lures to consider are worms; swim baits/swim jigs; shallow jerk baits (hard/soft); some top water; flipping/pitching (isolated cover); and shallow crank baits. Color schemes are shad; bluegill; crawdad and tilapia and live crickets/worms when pan fishing. The boat ramp to launch is Scott Driver located on the Kissimmee River in Okeechobee and Harney Pond canal located in Lakeport and is closely located to the Big Water Bait & Tackle store for all your fishing needs.

REPORT & FORECAST

It Feels Like Summer

Well, it's not officially summer yet, but it sure does feel like it. Hopefully, with the arrival of June, we will start seeing some late afternoon and early evening thunderstorms. This helps regulate the water temperatures in the harbor. Last year we had a very dry summer resulting

in very high water temperatures.

So far this year, the fishing has been very good. Snook have moved out to the barrier islands in good numbers. The bars are also holding good numbers of fish. Moving water is the key to the best bites. On high tides look for fish such as snook and also reds to be closer to the bushes and mangroves. As the tide drops, fish will move offshore or possibly into a nearby pothole.

Another species will start making its presence known, mangrove snapper will be moving into the harbor. During the summer months, these guys move into deep creeks, Mangrove Point, and the local bars will hold them. Best known for their incredible taste, but they also put up a great fight. If you're trying to get a youth angler involved in fishing, these guys can be very cooperative.

In clear water, I recommend using a light leader and a small circle hook. These guys have really good eyesight which makes them picky at times. So dropping down the tackle size will get the job done.

The warmer water will move the trout onto the deeper flats, look for feeding fish in 4-6 feet of water. I prefer areas that have a mixture of grass and sand. Drifting is also effective in finding areas that are holding fish.

If you would like to experience some of Southwest Florida's finest fishing? Give us a call or send an email. All of our trips are customized to fit your needs.

Terescenko Wins BFL at the “Big O”

Local custom rod builder Boater Alex Terescenko of West Palm Beach, Florida, caught a five-bass limit weighing 28 pounds, 3 ounces, in late April to win the Phoenix Bass Fishing League (BFL) Presented by T-H Marine on Lake Okeechobee. Hosted by Roland & Mary Ann Martin’s Marina and Resort, the tournament was the fourth event of the season for the BFL Gator Division. Terescenko earned $3,804 for his victory.

The 31-year-old angler is a custom rod builder who owns Scenko Stix rod brand, which he runs with his girlfriend, Jenna Vlaar. He won the tournament using a 7-foot, 4-inch rod of his own making that he calls the Chatter Trap. Alex and his rod brand are very well known all around the “Big O” as his custom rods are in the hands of the anglers he competes against. The locals say Scenko Stix are well worth their price and are now available in various actions of in-stock rods at his store in West Palm Beach. He and his girlfriend Jenna also compete together in other local events on the famed “Big O”, twice last year catching 5 bass limits over 30 plus pounds yet not getting a win, this time it was his turn.

“I pretty much caught all my fish on a homemade vibrating jig,” Terescenko said. “I didn’t really get much time to practice, but when I did practice, I found a whole bunch of Mayan cichlid beds. They were loaded with cichlids.” Cichlids are similar to bluegills, at least in size and their habit of spawning in clusters or colonies. And the bass prey on them during the cichlid spawn.

Terescenko was able to get bit in practice, but he knew he likely would have to adjust in the tournament because the wind kept switching directions. That kind of weather change in spring in south Florida calls for adjustments in fishing tactics, too. “I really, really slowed down, and I was almost crawling the bait on the bottom,” he said. The fishing pressure that this lake gets week after week until late summer keeps the fish moving following clean water and bait as the wind changes direction almost daily. Slowing down proved to be the deciding factor. Terescenko said several other anglers were in his area fishing faster but weren’t having the same results. In fact, he never fired up his big motor the entire day and only

burned through about 20% of his trolling motor batteries. He just worked a triangular area of three bedding zones, each about 50 yards apart, and made cast after cast. “Patience was definitely a big thing for me,” he said. “That’s something that takes years to learn as a fisherman, but that’s what really came in clutch.”

Alex fished a green pumpkin Gambler Komodo as a trailer on his vibrating jig, and he dipped the tails in chartreuse. The jig had a green pumpkin skirt. He also caught a couple fish on a white vibrating jig.

“A lot of guys that throw a vibrating jig will use a composite blend rod,” Terescenko says. “It kind of has the benefits of the glass and composite, where if they (the fish) do eat that bait at the boat, it’ll have enough give and parabolic bend to not pull the hook. I designed the Chatter Trap where the blank is pretty thin, but the walls are pretty thick, giving it a really nice whippy, crisp feel. It casts great and keeps fish pinned. You can really lean into them and not worry about your line breaking or pulling the hook. It’s very forgiving, but very strong at the same time. It’s definitely our best seller.”

Terescenko thanked his local community for supporting his rod business. He also thanked his girlfriend Jenna for her support, as well as his parents, who covered his entry fee to fish the BFL event. “None of this would be possible without them,” he said. The local anglers who give us continued business support means everything, if you build a good product for a reasonable price and stand behind your brand good things will come in time.

If you or someone you know is looking for great value in a custombuilt rod or even a stock series rod, take a look at their product line. Visit www.scenkostix.com, take the time to speak with Alex about what type of rod your looking for, the types of fish you are after and he will guide you in a decision that will make the most sense on the budget you have in mind. If you mention that you read about him or his business in Coastal Angler Magazine, he will give you a special discount.

Iam entering my first year in college at the University of Montevallo in Alabama this August 2024. I was blessed to be offered a scholarship in the President’s Outdoor Scholar Program at the school. This scholarship offers students with a love for the outdoors an education to learn environmental studies, management of species, and opportunities to explore careers in the outdoor industry. I am planning to graduate with a business or marketing degree to enter the business side of the angling industry.

I am an avid bass angler with a passion that began at the young age of 7 while watching college bass fishing on TV in my living room. I continued my determination to succeed in the sport I love through the Florida Bass Nation competing the past 6 years against over 120 or more anglers in the state and building a resume towards my dream of collegiate fishing.

My dream is one step closer with the scholarship opportunity to Montevallo. The University of Montevallo is currently the 2024 Bassmaster Classic College Champions, 2023, and 2024 Major League Fishing National Champions and is currently 3 years running the Bass Pro Shops School of the Year champions. To be selected from thousands of anglers to the number-one ranked team in the nation is truly a blessing.

all know this can add up putting a financial strain on my parents and me. For me to continue my college education and succeed in the industry, I am offering sponsorship opportunities or donations to help my dream.

Pushin’ Water Kayak Charters REPORT & FORECAST

June is one of the better times of year in South Florida. Snook, tarpon, and jacks will be looking for mullet pattern baits like Super Spooks, large swimbaits, and jerk baits. If you are finding mullet in the area you are fishing, whip out a Super Spook or large swim bait. If you are finding glass minnows, use a D.O.A. jerk bait or shad tail. Mangroves,

docks, and seawalls with current nearby will be the places to target. Launching the kayak at places like Johnathan D. MacArthur State Park and Snook Islands will give you access to some great areas to target snook, tarpon, and jacks. You should also still be able to find some tripletail in the rivers and lagoon. Focus your attention around floating objects and channel markers.

OFFSHORE

June is typically great for blackfin tuna. These fish can be taken on live bait as well as trolling plugs and dropping vertical jigs. During this time, mahi will also be in larger numbers and closer to shore. Large kingfish will be making their way to their spring/ summer areas off of our coast. Trolling live goggle eyes, pilchards, and blue runners will put fish in the fish bag. Don’t be afraid to fish shallow during this time of year. Your range should be 60-to-180 feet of water.

FRESHWATER

Warmer weather means the clown knifefish will be more cooperative. Use shiners or shad along weed edges near deeper water. Peacock bass and largemouth will be heading towards their beds to spawn if they have not already. Look to sight fish the bass along the banks and docks. Throwing a small jig or D.O.A. shrimp in their bed to annoy them will get them to bite.

Highlands Youth Tournament Lake June REPORT & FORECAST

Well, my fishing guys and girls, the waters warming up and so is the fishing, good creels are coming in daily. The fish are definitely feeding up right now after coming off beds. They need to replenish their strength, so it's the perfect time to find a big female.

Don't be afraid to throw big baits this time of year and don't be afraid to fish in the hot sunny afternoon. Many of the big fish are caught at that time of day, even in mid-hot summer.

We had a very good turnout at the Highlands Youth tournament a few

weeks ago. 26 lbs took First Place. Congratulations to Booker and his team. Congratulations to my girls, Tara and Paige who took third place. These two girls are just excellent anglers. I expect to see great things from them in the future.

Don't be afraid to start out in the morning on the shoreline and around the docks even in the heat they will feed early in the morning in these areas. Also, in the warmer weather do not be afraid to throw top water Zara Spook a small Pop R. Or maybe a Whopper Plopper. They’ll all get the job done. Every morning in the first 45 minutes there is a lot of fry right now so the fish are feeding up as the sun rises. You're going to want to search those deeper water areas, find the grass and or cover on the deeper drop-off areas and you will probably find the majority of the fish. There's also a lot of fish right now around the Scrub Park area on Lake June, as well as the shell bed. You can identify the shell bed by looking at your electronics. Don’t be afraid to drag a Carolina Rig or a drop shot or a Shaky Head with a black trick worm, you will feel the shell bed when you get in that right area. Hopefully, you'll also feel a good size bass.

The colors of your plastics are always controversial. I like to stay with the common black and blues, watermelon red, of course, green pumpkin, and June bug. They’re all winners. I also find myself lately dropping to lighter lines with lighter rigs 10 lb and 12 lb test fluorocarbon or mono seems to be a very good choice. I've kind of gotten away from that heavier equipment. It seems that the fish are more finesse biters anymore on Lake June. That's what this fisherman is finding out.

So, take out that spinning rod with a drop shot rig with a 4-in presentation. Don't be afraid to throw a 10-in worm on a light Shaky Head maybe 3/16 or even a quarter ounce. Again, look for the grassy areas and or cover in the form of brush piles or whatever else you might find down there right now. Don't be afraid to explore deeper water, like 25 ft right now. It may be a little cooler than some of the other areas in the lake. Look for those areas for the majority of the fish.

In the meantime, tight lines, keep fishing and stay hydrated on these warm summer days and we'll see you next month.

ask him if he’d be willing to join back up with the band. He was quick to say yes. Jordan and his wife, Josie, have since added two more children to make them a family of six.

The youngest member of the group is Sawyer Humphrey, a 13-year-old who is in the seventh grade at Heartland Christian Academy. From the first time he ever heard the band, he wanted to be a member. As a drummer, he started playing on a kids set when he was 3 or 4 years old, but he was quick to bang on anything that made noise. He too took lessons with Harry when he was 7 or 8, followed by lessons from Jordan when he was around nine. His first appearance with CTJ was on stage for a song when he was nine, and again when he was eleven. He played with the youth band at Bible Fellowship Church, and he also plays in a jazz trio with Jordan and Harrison Havery.

And finally, the last member of the band, Harry Havery. Although I’ve only met Harry a couple of times, he’s a very humble, self-effacing gentleman, requesting that I spend more time with the other members of

the group than with him.

But from what I can see, he is California Toe Jam!

Harry was born at Walker Memorial Hospital in Avon Park and raised in Sebring, Florida. He is the only Florida Cracker from a family of Yankees – when his family moved from Pleasantville, New York to Sebring in 1966. He began performing in public at the age of three, leading the Lord’s Prayer and singing songs at his father's AA meetings. He started playing the guitar at the age of seven and by the age of eight, he was playing and singing at many local community functions and events.

It was 1985, almost 40 years ago when Harry co-founded the band with guidance counselor Rodney Hollinger. They never dreamed that they would be playing music together for 39 years. Hollinger passed away in November 2023, just months shy of the band’s 40th anniversary.

Havery has called Sebring home his entire life. He married Dawn McFall of Holland, MI in 1989. The pair met when he worked as her teacher’s aide at The Achievement Center - a school for severely emotionally disturbed children. Together, they raised three children - Katie, Rodney, and Harrison.

Dawn is a veteran teacher at the Highlands County School System. She taught for thirty-one years before retiring, and then going back into the classroom. She is retiring again in June.

Harry has spent the past several summers performing in Watkins Glen, NY, and the surrounding area. He enjoys spending time with Dawn, and their kids - as their schedules allow. He plays softball and basketball and enjoys Italian food. One of his greatest joys was taking his kids fishing when they were little - a magical time, gone too fast.

In addition to playing with CALIFORNIA TOE JAM, Havery does solo acoustic shows in the area.

Harrison Havery and Patrick Fox take care of sound and lights.

The group's 40th-anniversary tour begins in October 2024.

So that’s the group! And what a group they are. So, the next time you hear about a local band playing somewhere, check it out! If it’s The California Toe Jam, go see them. You’ll be glad you did.

888-POUND BLUEFIN CAUGHT OFF DESTIN!

In case you haven’t seen it yet, this enormous 888-pound bluefn tuna caught in late April out of Destin just might be the largest bluefn ever caught of Florida. It was brought to the docks at Boshamps Seafood and Oyster House on Destin Harbor, and although the fsh won’t qualify as a state record because landing it was a team efort, no one in Destin really seems to care. It’s a catch worth celebrating.

According to Te Destin Log, Capt. George Gill was piloting the Flat Dangerous on its frst Gulf of Mexico trip on Wednesday, April 24. About 68 miles out of Destin, the new 80-foot Viking encountered a massive school of surfacefeeding bluefns while the crew was fshing for bait.

With just four baits onboard, some small yellowfn, skipjack and blackfn, the captain gave chase, and the crew tossed baits into the school of bluefns. Tey lost three big fsh in short order, but the fsh of a lifetime for boatowner Warren Williamson, of Alabama, came tight on the fourth and fnal bait.

Te fsh died about an hour into the fght, and it was a team efort to haul it to the surface over the next four hours with 100-pound main line, 150-pound braid and 400-pound leader.

Te fsh measured 110 inches in length and weighed 888 pounds. Tat’s a heck of a fsh to break in a new boat!

Te existing state record, caught by Rick Whitley out of Destin in 2017, weighed 826.5 pounds. Another would-be new record was caught in 2022, also out of Destin by a team of anglers sharing time on the rod. Tat fsh weighed 832 pounds. Te Gulf of Mexico bluefn tuna record stands at 1,152 pounds. Tat fsh, caught of Louisiana in 2003, is the largest fsh caught by rod and reel in state history.

CCW Petitions Big Sugar Over Everglades Restoration

Captains For Clean Water (CCW), a non-proft organized by fshing guides, is petitioning Big Sugar to drop its lawsuit seeking access to irrigation water from the Everglades Agricultural Area (EAA) Reservoir.

Te EEA reservoir, which is currently under construction, is the centerpiece of Everglades restoration projects designed to provide relief from devastating Lake Okeechobee discharges and restore the fow of freshwater south, as nature intended, through the Everglades to Florida Bay.

Big Sugar, made up of sugar producers United States Sugar Corporation, Okeelanta Corporation (Florida Crystals) and Te Sugar Cane Growers Cooperative of Florida, claims farming interests in South Florida were promised water access by the federal government. Last year a federal judge threw out the case brought by Big Sugar, and this recent lawsuit is in the appeals process, with no projected timeline.

Explanation of the CCW petition reads: “If Big Sugar wins, they could push to use the EAA Reservoir as their personal taxpayer-funded water supply, upending years of restoration progress and sealing the fate of Florida’s future to include more damaging discharges, more toxic algae blooms, and more economic and environmental peril. It could also set a dangerous precedent, forcing Everglades Restoration projects to prioritize Big Sugar’s interests and replace their historical water supply over benefts to South Florida’s waters— regardless of how and when Sugar lost water supply since December 2000.”

HIT-AND-RUN GROUPER

I’ve long been a proponent of chumming up a place on the bottom with squid and then feeding grouper a big live bait.

However, afer the last few trips, I’m starting to rethink this tactic because of the number of sharks we’ve been catching.

I’ve never seen as many sharks as we are seeing right now. Te bottom is covered with them, and the top layer of the water column is full of them. Tis past trip, we put out fve Spanish mackerel on light lines hoping for a wahoo bite. We caught fve sharks almost instantly. One of these bites was the biggest tiger shark I’ve ever seen. It was at least 12 feet long and 2 feet wide across the head. Te rest of them were standard 6- to 9-footers; it takes a toll on you to get them to the boat for dehooking.

apart to create a lot of smell down on the bottom. Ten I drop live pinfsh or small snappers to the grouper drawn in by the “chum.”

Lately, I’ve resorted to dropping big, pretty live baits frst to see if we can get a few grouper bites before the taxman arrives, and it’s become a matter of WHEN rather than IF he shows up. It’s “hit-and-run” fshing. We pull up on a nice mark with pinfsh and grunts already rigged on the jig. I hit the spot lock on the Rhodan and drop in for a few good bites. When the sharks show up, we just move up or down the ledge. Lather, rinse and repeat as ofen as needed. Granted, we haven’t boated as many of the smaller snappers or seabass for the cooler, but we’ve caught some beautiful grouper with this “hitand-run” style of bottom banging. Te wahoo are diferent story. We quit putting the light line out due to the instant shark bite. I’ve got to fgure something out for that. From now until the end of October or the frst of November, wahoo will be everywhere and nowhere at the same time. Tey will come inside the edge of the Gulf Stream following big stacks of bait. As usual, some king mackerel fsherman will catch a 100-pounder on a live menhaden in less than 100 feet of water while chasing a tournamentgrade kingfsh.

Between all the American red snappers—which we aren’t allowed to keep—and all the sharks, we’ve been run of of several square miles of bottom lately. Tankfully, we’ve found some of the grouper we’re looking for, but I’m seriously rethinking the “chumming” part of the tactics I usually employ. Normally, I begin on a spot by dropping whole squid on jigs, which the smaller fsh pick

I said all that to say this: We’re going to take more pinfsh and less squid to catch “hit-and-run” grouper. Someone please educate me on a bait that will not catch a red snapper!

C-HAWK MITZI SKIFF: & Two Brands, One Philosophy

In the boating world, brand loyalty is earned. Over years, boater experiences with vessels— good and bad, on and of the water—are what build the reputations of boats. It might, or might not, come as a surprise that two brands that have garnered sterling reputations in the industry for functionality and dependability are manufactured by the same builder.

C-Hawk and Mitzi Skif are both built in the U.S.A. with the same philosophy that simplicity leads to vessels that are easier and more afordable to operate and maintain. A simple, well-designed and well-built boat, comes with less hassle, leaving more time to spend on the water. Especially among anglers, this philosophy has built large followings for both brands among people who are more interested in fshing and boating than they are in pampering their pretty boats.

“We build a keep-it-simple-stupid boat. If you want something you can sof scrub at the end of the day and put it away, you’re my guy,” said Brad Grubbs, the owner and manufacturer of C-Hawk and Mitzi Skif. “We set out to make boats that are afordable to operate and afordable to own, and the philosophy has worked.”

Mitzi Skiff

Although Mitzi Skif originated in the 1990s for a singular purpose, the same philosophy for simplicity applies. Fly fshing the fats drove Tom Mitzlaf to design a skif with quiet maneuverability, extremely shallow draf and a clean deck layout to make him a better fsherman. It was simple by necessity, and it revolutionized the industry.

Tree decades later, Mitzi’s line of 15’, 16’and 17’ skifs achieves those purposes exceptionally well, and they have led the way with innovations that make them the fats boats other boat builders imitate. A Mitzi does everything the pricier skifs do, yet they are afordable enough for any angler to own and operate.

“If it ain’t broke, don’t fx it,” Grubbs quipped. Mitzi builds skifs for anglers more interested in fshing than in spending a lot of money.

Te 15’ remains a purpose-built fats boat for one or two anglers to sneak up on wary fsh in super-skinny water. Te 17’ models are more multi-purpose. Tey can fsh three anglers, and while they are primarily a fats boat, they perform admirably as bay boats with a modifed V-hull and an 11-degree deadrise at transom to reduce hull slap. Rolled gunnels knock down spray for an exceptionally dry ride.

Tey are solid and durable for long years of heavy use, and from hideaway pushpole holders to fush-mount hardware, Mitzi delivers clean and stable casting decks designed specifcally for hard-core anglers. www.mitziskifs.com

C-Hawk Boats

C-Hawk has been around since the mid1970s and ofers lines of bombproof 16’ to 29’ center consoles and 22’ to 29’ sport cabins that were originally developed for commercial applications. C-Hawks remain widely used commercially, and many recreational

boaters also see the value in a vessel that’s built to take a beating.

“Really, we just took a commercial-duty boat and put a little lipstick on it,” Grubbs said. “ Te boat is as tough as it ever was. It’s been the same boat for nearly 50 years.”

At their core, C-Hawks are hardcore workhorses, and the center console models have become popular with charter captains because they are built to withstand hard use for years of trouble-free boating. Grubbs pointed to C-Hawk’s 25 CC as a great example of what the brand has become. It’s an extremely stable fshing platform that drafs just 12 inches, and with a 300 horsepower max it’ll take you anywhere you need to go from skinny water to light ofshore duty. What’s more, it’s infnitely customizable from the factory.

“We can mix and match consoles, fsh boxes, full transoms, cut transoms, bare hulls… you name it,” Grubbs said. “ Tere are some recreational guys adding towers and sight fshing for cobia, and such. Everything we do is built around keep it simple, keep it efcient, keep it easy to maintain, keep it cost efective to own and operate. Tey are all unique… no cookie cutter trailer queens here. Te 25 is a great example of what C-Hawk is.” www.chawkboats.net

Every month, I provide tips to help make you a better angler. Tis month’s tip is one of the most important. With so many tackle and gear options on the market these days, staying organized on the water is difcult. Here are a few things I do that make me a more efcient angler because I know exactly where to go when looking for the right tool for the job.

Storage options vary depending on the type of fshing you do. I’m going to stick to bass fshing, but don’t be afraid to alter these tips to your style of fshing.

When storing baits, hooks, line and gear, your No. 1 enemy is moisture. Keeping your tools dry should be a priority because it keeps hooks sharp and everything else rust-free. I store almost everything in waterproof boxes or bags. Tese storage options might be a little more expensive up-front, but when compared to losing a whole box of lures or hooks to rust, your investment will pay for itself many times over.Another good trick I’ve learned is to use DampRid moisture absorbers. Here in Florida, where humidity is high and temperatures fuctuate, condensation builds up in boat compartments. Te best thing to do is to take your tackle out of the boat and move it inside, but this is not an option if you fsh a lot and have a lot of gear. DampRid containers help keep everything safe and dry by absorbing moisture from the air in your boat’s storage compartments.

Now let’s talk about organization. If you’re a bass angler, you have a ton of sof plastics in diferent styles and colors as well as packs of hooks, jigs and weights to fsh them. I use plastic Sterlite containers with latches to store my bags of sof plastics. You can buy them at Walmart. I organize my baits by the type of sof plastic they are, and I label each container. On the water, this makes it easy grab the style of bait I’m looking for. Also, before I leave the house, labels make it easy to load what I think I’ll need for the day and remove what I don’t.

On the hook side of organization, one mistake people make when organizing hooks is to take them out of the original packaging to place them in compartment boxes. Tis is a huge mistake. Hook packs are clearly labeled by size and style, which allows you to quickly identify them on the water. Also, hook packs are designed to keep hooks sharp, untangled and dry. You can store your hooks in a box, but you should leave them in their original packaging.

Hopefully, these tips help you be more efcient on the water and save you some money by protecting your investments.
